Full Version: I'm pretty much beside myself!

I haven't blogged these yet, we're not done editing... I am chomping at the bit though! So I thought I'd share a few with my OSP pals...

Preface: I can't describe how wonderful it is to feel like you are finally finding your style, and just being completely confident and comfortable when you go into a shoot, knowing that you got the technical stuff down, and it will just flow if you listen to yourself and get to know your client(s). Amber and I have really begun to SEE ourselves in our work, and it is just so...... well, you know how that feels, there really aren't words to describe it....

So anyway, we have been shooting shooting shooting... if we don't have something on the books, we're setting up free sessions for people whose style or personality jump out at us, just to build up our portfolio. These are some pics I took of Amber and her hubby. They are youth pastors and needed something for the church website. This was the third or fourth time we tried to schedule a shoot... we got rained out every time.... finally, we were just like, okay, it's raining, yep, there's a shocker... how bout if we just shoot inside.... so we shot some inside, and then decided, hey, who says you can't play in the rain?! So that's what we did....

Yep, there did just HAPPEN to be a plunger laying around... they just bought their first house, and there was some hairy thing living in the kitchen drain. I love this one, it really tells a story about them - not only their sense of humor, but where they are in life right now. smile.gif

Thanks for looking, there will be more on the blog in the next day or two!

I love each one! These are great. Love the first and plunger shots, and the ladder cracks me up. Its great to have found your style, but more importantly, to have clients that actually allow you to express your style. I am finally getting clients that are choosing me for what they feel is my style, so things are getting a little looser (my sense of humor...) but its still rough getting people to think out of the box!

Kuddos to you! These are awesome and its great that you can express yourself as well as who they are so well!
Jules
Rain is underrated. Love these!

This is sooooo true where we live. A small southern town... People here have like, circa 1998 taste as far as photography goes. I had to realize that I had a choice - I could do what they liked and be miserable, or I could show them something different and hope they learned to love it as well, and be crazy happy in the mean time. I chose the latter of course! But sometimes I still worry if average people (not other artists or photographers) are going to "get" my work. But I have to be reasonable and realize that our style is not for everyone, and that's completely okay. The people that it *is* for are the ones who will be hiring us, they've seen our work, they know what to expect, call it a day. smile.gif

so totally fun! I have a thing for vintage umbrellas, and just umbrellas in general so I love the last few!

Awesome Greta!!
It will get even more fun with each passing shoot.

Glad to see you found a course to travel, never hesitate to take a detour though. smile.gif

Greta, the shots are great, good job! smile.gif

I know how it feels to actually see in your work a definite style emerging. When I was going through selecting shots for my new website (still getting there), I did actually see a definite style and tone to my work, and its so encouraging! Whats even better is that I like my style, so Ive stopped trying to 'copy' anothers (I will still play though)... brings you a new found confidence..

And yes, you want those clients who love and appreciate your work, and I think once you realise that you arent the photographer for everyone, you relax a little bit more into your business smile.gif

Oh and blogs are good for seeing style emerging as well smile.gif

So true. Only months ago, I'm like, "OMG.... so-and-so is sooooo amazing.... I want to be so-and-so...." Now when I see amazing stuff, it still inspires me, but I don't get depressed and feel like crap. I let it inspire me while realizing that I'm not so-and-so, I'm Greta, and I have a place in this business too! Albeit a smaller, less wealthy rock star place.... but a place no less.... wink.gif
