I'm trying to come up with some pricing structures that will make sense given my business, area of operation, and costs.

For those of you who are located in the midwestern states, that have a home-based studio...what do you charge per hour for wedding coverage?

I was researching this question on the PPA's website, but couldn't find a cut and dry answer for this.

Anyone...anyone?

Must be a lame post because no one's responding. =(

Patience young grasshopper. tongue.gif This isn't the most hopping board on the planet. Plus you asked for a certain market to respond to you.. I'm not in that market.. But I thought I'd respond to be nice.. and give you some hope.. smile.gif

for what it is worth, i learned a while ago that what you are asking may be a bit backward...

you need to look at your cost of doing biz first. your price should be set based on what you do, the time it takes, and what the market will bear - not (necessarily) on what someone else is charging.

the question you are asking is going to put you in a spot where everyone is - creating the most competition for yourself. if you price yourself slightly lower, you may end up 'price shoppers' and get stuck in a place where your price is not profitable, since it's based on your competition's price (not your cost of doing biz). try figuring out what you need to earn and fit your price to that.

how much to do you need to earn? start there... we'll keep chatting...

I'm in the midwest and work from home.
Based on my costs and such...read above...you could say my price per hour of work starts at $100 (this is also for every hour of post processing I think I will have to do for a wedding of so many hours, if I have an assistant also taking pictures, etc...). It all depends on the work involved. If I am doing architectural photography it goes up a lot since HDR involves more post processing time and I get grumpy when I have to do it wink.gif
But, really, you have to look at your costs and how much you need to make. I only need to make 25K a year based on what my hubby makes. BUT, there is no way I'm going to work the same or more hours for myself and not pay myself at least what I make at my 8-5 job.
