Why can't I delete anything? I threw a couple of pictures under documents for lack of a better place to put them when I first turned this thing on ... and I go to delete them. Select one, hit delete (I tried both delete keys) and it's still there. Huh? Go away.
I'm beyond frustrated. I know that there were going to be some adjustments, but come on, I just want to delete a few files.
I then edited some stuff in Lightroom, exported the files under a folder under Pictures. I had a couple of duplicates and went to go delete those (Under Finder). Again, they won't go away.
?? Please help.

Select multiple photos with the apple key then drag them into the trash.
Or, in the finder window under the little bolt, choose move to tash.

+1 Drag to the trash then hit "Empty trash" if you don't empty the trash the images will still take up space

Right click and select "Move to Trash" from the dropdown menu.
Or hold down the splat (it's the key with little apple on one side and the squiggly/flower looking thing on the other side of it) and push delete.
Or if you have a touch pad, tap it with both your middle and index fingers at the same time and the drop down menu will appear so you can select "Move to Trash."
Or go up to File at the top of your screen and select "Move to Trash."
Or you can simply select the file with your mouse and drag it to the trash can on your dock.

The "Delete" key above the "Return" key is actually a backspace key. It only work at deleting text.
If you have a full keyboard (not a MacBook or MacBook Pro) then the other delete key (above the arrow keys) will delete text to the right of the cursor.
For deletion of files, click the red X in the toolbars or do what everyone else has suggested.
BTW: Macs are Mouse-centric for some reason.

If you hit Command-Delete it will move whatever you have selected in the finder to the trash.
