Folks,
It has been a while since I have been one here. This saddens me. I miss the OSP community.
I just had someone ask me if I would photograph their baby. Since I have never done this before, I am unsure of what to charge them. Can you all help me quote them a fair price?
Thanks!

Hey Adam! How are you these days? Where are you these days?
My sessions fee is $100...you can see print prices on my website...those are going up next month.
So who's baby do you get to photograph?

I am curious too. I think it would depend on your location too and whether you'd provide a DVD of digital files, correct?

Thanks for the help! I am photographing some friends from Tacoma. I was thinking going to their house and a nearby park.
Thank you as well to the others who have responded. I was thinking around that price as well. Like I said the locations would be their house and park. All they are asking of me is the DVD. I was thinking of putting together a book for them since they would be my first clients in this area just as a kind token.
I am very open to more suggestions. Feel free to let me know! Thanks again!

Wow, maybe the pricing I was thinking was just way off base. I was thinking a lot higher, since you will be providing a DVD of high resolution images..

My portrait sessions start at $225. I haven't yet included a high res DVD, but that would certainly be an additional cost.

I charge a $200 session fee and $700 for the CD of images/DVD slideshow/5x5 bound proofbook of all final images (50-70). And 95% of my clients purchase this after their session.
Since you've said this is your first, I would come up with what you want your pricing to be once you get your baby portfolio established. And then discount your prices to reflect the portfolio-building (to whatever your comfortable with).
By doing this, when they tell their friends about you, they don't say it only cost $100. They'll tell them that "he normally charges $xxx, but we got it for $yyy because he's building his portfolio - you should call him soon!"
Just my $0.02

Thanks everyone. This is A LOT of help. It makes sense to set your price and give the discount. I appreciate all the help. If there is more out there, keep it comin!

My portrait package is $450 which includes the full CD and a 16x20.. but if you are portfolio building, I wouldn't charge full price.
