Yeah. I saw this too when they made the announcement on the 8th. I am considering to get one but I am not sure if they are suitable for any direct work on that device. I think only FW800 would be an option to do this, wouldnt it?

Still really lame that they don't have ethernet built in!!!!!

I'm staying away from Drobo... so many great network attached options out there....

I hear direct work is pretty slow but with fw800 that might be improved. I hear excellent things about it (well the original fw400 version) otherwise except that its slow for direct work.

Why would you choose to work direct from an external drive? With the amount of writing and rewriting with each file, the integrity of the drive will deteriorate over time. (you'll also notice the capacity diminishing)


With the prices of internal (unless your editing primarily on a laptop - shame on you!) drives with 32MB+ cache Id have a working drive just in-computer and then files go external when edited.

Right you are. IŽll go that way. On my laptop I primarily do the preselection and the album design. I Žll get me also a fast external drive to work on and use the drobo for my back ups.
