In case you haven't heard - traditional advertising is dying.
More and more people are turning to the internet - duh, that's why you are reading this. Sure, some industries like ours (weddings) still have a strong hold on magazine advertising, but in the coming years this will also be affected. Just look at what the younger generation is using: text, social networks, and Google.

Besides, nobody wants to perpetuate magazine advertising more than the Reps, who keep calling you and trying to sell you ad space. I've never had an ad in a magazine. Ever! and this year over 30% of my weddings (and I've got 34 on the books this year) are for destination events. It is possible to get bookings without advertising.

Yeah, I think most people are beginning to realize that the ROI in print advertising just isn't there anymore.

I work at an agency that produces a few magazines and we also have sales staff in house to sell those adds. The last few months those poor girls have been totally stressed to meet their numbers. And they are 100% commission based. So no sales = no food. I've seen a drop off in new ad designs for our art depart. Most people just keep recycling previous ads.

Personally I love print - and the web is a necessary evil. I'd rather have a tangable magazine in my hand any day vs reading something online.
