I have both the 50mm 1.8 and the 80-200 as well. I shot with the 85mm and liked it. Just curious - why do you feel that it is redundant?
I shoot a lot of children and find that they are on the move and I must follow. The 85mm is often too close for me and I have to back way up and by then the moment is lost. So, I just use the 50mm mostly.
If I'm doing an event, I put on my 80-200 and then I have the zoom to get in close when I want. I don't often need to take full-length photos then. I do a lot of volunteer work so I just found that the 85mm doesn't suit my needs. I do like primes, but its easier to run up than switch out my lens. If I did more studio type work I think the 85mm would be perfect!
I follow, thanks for the clarification I really appreciate it!
