Here are a few pages from my first wedding album!! Since I'm new at all this design stuff, I kept it simple. Any thoughts or advice for future endeavors?

  1. The groom surprised the bride with a (interesting) song one of his band members wrote. So, I used some of the lyrics on the page.

Here's what I think.. smile.gif

1 - It's fine with me... I do think that font is really overused, but lol, it is a very weddingy font (it is one of the fonts we used in our own wedding invitations last year!).
2 - Personally I find it a little distracting to the eye to have the edge of the large photo flush against the edge and have space on the other side? Perhaps it's just me but other than that, I like it. Really cute picture of the groom.
3 - I hate words in albums and in little image collages. Just to be honest. Nothing against you. But I really do hate it. If you keep it, I may think about rearranging the text or changing the font or just playing around with it a little more. To me, adding words seems kind of dated perhaps? I don't know.. I totally 100% get the sentiment.. but I don't know.. doesn't jive for me!
4 - I like this one.
5 - I like this one as well.
6 - I like it except it seems like your glasses are tilting to the right slightly. smile.gif
7 - It seems very busy compared to the rest of your spreads.

Overall I think it's good. But maybe a few tweaks?

And my thoughts..

1. Love it - beautiful image
2. I agree wit Brandi though it might look better in real life than in a webpage layout
3. cool
4. great
5. i feel like on the RHS smaller images her head is coming out of her arm and this could maybe be fixed with a little more separation between the images?? The LHS image is stunning but my eyes kept trying to work out what was going on on the right!
6. agree that the glasses are tilting but im not sure if thats bad otherwise a gorgeous page
7. Love it

Great job esp for a first album design! Keep it up smile.gif

Thanks for your critique. I love hearing it.
I was so excited when I thought of this page design, but after I finished it I was rather disappointed with the outcome, but I worked so hard on it I didn't want to just scrap it. I've already spent too much time playing with it, so I think this time I'll leave it & consider it a lesson learned.

jdear, thanks for your thoughts!

First off, if this is your first attempt at album design I'm very impressed!!

Two bits of constructive criticism from me:

Page 1:
Okay, I'm going back to my old days as a yearbook editor here, but one thing we were taught is that you want to have the action of your page looking in to it (to lead the reader's eye that direction). So, in the case of the first pages, I would have thought about maybe swapping the image of the bride/groom to the right side of the page so he was facing in. Just something to consider when you are arranging future albums (No. 3 is a great example of that done right)

And Page 3:
I'm torn on the words too... at first, before I read your caption, I was like, "No, no font!" but then knowing that was a song he wrote for her...ahhh..softened it a bit. And I bet you your clients would really like it (sometimes I think those of us in the photo industry are overly critical about this kind of stuff. For example, when I talk to people about album design, they are just BLOWN AWAY that you can print the images right on the page!!!! WOW!!!!)
