Hey guys -- I know of a few resources out there that I can check up on this, but I'm getting ready to shoot a session with a 3 month old on Saturday and just looking for any inspiration you guys might have.

Since this isn't a newborn shoot (where they just curl up like a bug) or a 6 month shoot (where they are mobile enough to sit up for you), I'm just looking for ideas on poses namely ...

Suggestions? Stuff you want to share? Please post!! smile.gif

Use a boppy to prop them up on thier tummy, back, side.

at 3 months they can't really go anywhere so a blanket lined basket or even the top of a bed with mom nearby would work.

Lots of mom holding baby in her lap, over her shoulder, etc.

I sat a baby in a chair sitting upright (it was a red leather chair) and had dad hold his legs and I got a head shot. It was their favorite photo because since he wasn't sitting yet, it was a totally different shot.

You could even try laying them on a table (Them on their belly) that way you can get down on face level easily. (Of course mom will need to be there to make sure they don't fall.)

Good luck!!!

Only natural light...she says she doesn't even use a reflector. I am doing a workshop with her in September, so maybe I can bring more insight of her magic after that!

Her stuff is beautiful but it looks like more studio kind of stuff and I don't really have the capabilities to do that. OrangeCat, I'd love to hear back on how Audrey's workshop goes - I'm SO jealous of you! Should be an amazing experience ....

We were just faced with the same situation. We did a lot of stuff using window light and a reflector. Almost made a makeshift studio with a black sheet. When made B&W, it actually turned out really well. The reflector light actually mesmerized the little kid and he kept looking at it which was great. Just lots of mom holding in arms, lap, above head, over shoulder. There is only so much you can get pose wise. Shoot shallow and focus on the eyes and little features like feet and fingers and you will do okay.

Just thought I'd revisit and share what I caught from the day. Check out the blog for more ....

Gail, I really like what you have done here! I have photographed only a few babies in natural light, anyway, I usually find that in the crib, or on the parents bed with windows wide open, or moving the rocking chair near the window. Incorporating the parents is so helpful. Three month old is hard, they can't do much! I think 8 month is the cutest smile.gif

BTW I am new here. I have to say I love that idea, the real Tami, in the basket!
