Must be a UK thing? I don't think they are selling any 3g online in the US, all activation has to be done in store. I can't even go alone to buy one for Tiffany, she has to be there to purchase her because they limit it to one per person.

I'll be checking out the craziness in Japan...if there is any. So far none of my Japanese friends are that excited about it..it's slow, doesn't have a lot of functions they have had for awhile (video chatting,tv, MUCH better camera, video recording..etc..) They only thing they like about it is the touch screen and the look. Function wise..in Japan...it's nothing new.
But...that doesn't mean I don't want one here in the US! I do...except for that bloated plan. I rarely use my voice phone...something like 30-50 mins/mo. BUT, I'd use the unlimited data ALL THE TIME! Wish there were better options for plans. $70/mo is ridiculous

Plus camping out is fun. Tiffany and I usually camp out on black friday. A couple years ago we were camping outside Circuit City freezing our butts off in the dead of winter, and about 3 or 4am, some punk teenagers drove by and threw water balloons at all of us. Good times, good times.

The voice plan + the $30 unlim. data plan DOES NOT INCLUDE TXT MESSAGING.
You'll have to add on a "messaging plan", too, if you do txt messaging.
I'm probably going to do the $5/month for 200 messages.
So, I'll dump my $20/mo data plan, get the $30 3G plan plus $5 messaging, and my bill will go up by $15 (plus whatever new taxes I get -- you know they'll be there!)
I've just got to find an Apple or AT&T store up in Carson, where I'll be Friday.
The cool thing that I saw on apple.com yesterday is that they'll have them fully charged in the store on Friday, so you can walk in, pick your plan, sign up, buy the phone, and walk out with a phone that you can make calls on & start browsing the net, too ... awesome

it's always strange to me how much people say "don't get a iphone the plan is really expensive"
when it's exactly the same as any other smart phone, you never hear anyone complaining about the costs of a blackberry plan.
and then you read about other countries and their data plans are WAY more expensive than in the US especially for unlimited data.
anyways, back on topic, i'm probably going to just go to my local at&t store an hour or two before they open on friday.
i was in there the other day, the manager expects people to camp out, it'll be interesting to see how many people are already there when i get there.

Chris u will DEFINITELY want to check out this little promo offering that $100 plan 6gb for $30/month if you buy within the first 30 days... I use roughly 2 - 3gbs of data with what I consider to be a tremendous amount of usage so if u can lock in this rate its basically "virtually" unlimited :-).

on the 2G u can get a go phone sim card (pre-paid sim) and then just pay for the data plan and add mins at a higher per min rate (but right in line if u truly only use 30 - 50 mins/month). I think this would run u like $40 - $60/month? Not sure and this may or may not work with the iphone 3G..

Big D! Got your new toy business tool yet?
Just got a call from a friend who got to the AT&T store at 5:45 this morning. Was the 38th customer and got the next to last black 16GB iPhone. The system was so bogged down that it took forever, had problems running his credit card. Had to run it twice. When they ran it again, the system showed that his particular iPhone had already been purchased. So he had to leave the iPhone there until they get it resolved. It's a crazy day for the AT&T people!

Tiffany and I were first in line and both got 16gb iphones. In the store, we waited about 10 minutes while they tried to activate the phone through iTunes, which wasn't happening and timing out. So they told us to take the phone home and activate it through our home iTunes. Problem with that is the whole nation is doing the same thing. So we are stuck here without a phone until iTunes is back up.
Apple really should've released the 2.0 firmware a week ago, so that most of the traffic for upgrades would've been out of the way. But now every one with a v1 iphone is trying to update their firmware, while all the nation is trying to activate their phones, so it's just a nightmare.

Activation was pretty slow- the att people were all working out their kinks on us.

i just got back from the att store, i ended up not getting there till 7am. by then there were probably 100 people in front of me, and a couple hours later there were the same amount of people behind me, so i ended up in the center of a really long line.
they completely ran out of phones probably 10 people before me.
so in the end i waited in line for that long and i drove away with a receipt and a "we'll call you when your phone arrives"

Hey Joshua,
I'm curious to hear more about the audio being better. Is it very noticeable? Is it with music that the audio is better, or talking, or both?
I don't live anywhere where there will be 3G coverage, and I don't care at all about GPS, so I'm trying to decide if I want a new one or to try and find a 2G version.
I was thinking the 2G version would meet my needs great until I read what you said about better audio quality. I love music so audio quality is important to me, so I'd love to hear what you notice as different and improved. Anyone else notice better audio quality?
Thanks!!!

I think the audio has improved dramatically. Before when I would play my iphone through the speakers, it was really scratchy, now with the new iphone, it's not as scratchy and sounds really nice. I also think the calls are a little easier to hear.

Thanks Dustin!! I think it may be what sways me to get a new one rather than an old one, even with no 3G around here and no cares for a GPS.
Audio quality is important, and someone else mentioned on the Pictage forum that:
There's supposedly a lot more to this upgrade than just 3G and GPS from what I've heard. A faster processor, a much better antennae, better battery life, and way better sound quality.

OK, time for my iphone story from today. I got up around 6:30 am this morning and literally had to drag my 7 year old out of bed to come with me. I thought that if we could get to the store around 7:30 or so we would be OK.
So I get to the AT&T store. There was no line, just a few people waiting in cars. I was like, great, this is gonna be easy! So it gets closer to 8am, and all of us is anticipating the store opening soon. Someone pointed out that there was no iphone posters, or anything up. We then realized that the store was an authorized retailer and not a regular AT&T store. This is a fairly large store, and I always thought it was the AT&T store. The AT&T store was actually next door located inside the Walmart. Talk about feeling dumb! OMG!
So then we heard that the store in Walmart had already counted the first so many in the store and sent the rest home! So I drove across town to another AT&T store. We get there at 8:20. We had about 50 or so people in front of us, so I was confident if we waited we would get a phone. Surely they had more than 50 iphones! A guy kept coming out giving us updates and I asked him, why can't you just tell us how many phones you have so we don't all have to wait. He refused to tell us. He said only his manager knew how many they had. I felt like they really did us a disservice by not telling us. Finally after we waited in line for 2 hours they ran out of phones. It was gonna be another hour just to get on the list! No way Jose!
We decided just to go home and buy one later. But instead of going home (yes, I am a glutten for punishment), I decided to check one more store. I knew they wouldn't have any but I thought I wouldn't have to wait in line to get on the list. Luckily we got there, and only had to wait a few minutes. I was able to go ahead and purchase the phones, and they told me that they would email me when they came in. I have no idea how long that will take though.
All in all I spent over 4 hours in lines or waiting at AT&T stores today. Still didn't get an iphone. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to go home with an ipod today but, oh well.
