Full Version: Campus/Architectural Photography?

Hi All

I've been invited back to do some campus photography of a prep school. I did some work for them before, at fairly low cost, as I was building my portfolio at the time. With this new shoot, I'll need to raise rates, and they are aware of this (it's reasonable to them) and are asking for a quote.

Had anyone done work like this before -- about an hour or so shoot, architectural/landscape shots, few days of post processing, maybe 50 or so images on DVD they can use in print, brochures, etc. Curious what pricing ranges might apply.

Thanks for any insight!

Steve,
Pricing for a job like this is very localized.
I have clients who I have worked for who would scream if I quoted $500, then I have those who I could charge $2,500 with out skipping a beat.
If the clients budget can handle what you feel your time is legitimately worth, quote away.
For me it would be $250 for first hour and $100/hour for each additional hour (20 min grace period) for the shoot and $50/hour for post. I have a friend who does all my photoshop work, she charges $50.00/hour. I convert the RAW files to PSD and she does the rest. I work on quotes with her input on PP time so I don't under quote. I also like to know what the clients plans are so we can give them exactly what they need/want.
Hope this helps...

John,

I don't understand why you're charging less for additional hours. Is the work any less demanding or time consuming after 60 minutes?

A dentist doesn't say, "I'll charge you $1000 for one crown and $500 for each additional."

Thanks, John. I agree there's a lot of factors involved that determine price - location, reputation, previous working relationship, etc. But this gives me a general idea and I'm going to propose a quote and see where things go. Thanks

I price that way because most of these jobs I shoot last on average 1.5 hours...
I make $350 for shooting the job and my friend make a couple of hundred for post work.
I have quoted jobs where I would have to come back several times to get different lighting or stages of re-construction, etc, and those jobs are usually a flat fee ($2,000 - $4,000)...If they don't say no to my pricing, I don't change it.
