I've been playing around with some ideas for a color scheme and a logo, lately. Then, the other day I saw a little collage of photos that were inspired by Peonies & Blueberries on a design blog I frequent -- I have been thinking about navy blue and a daker pink for awhile and this was pushed me over the edge.
So, being the absolute nerd that I am, I created an inspiration board (to send to friends and such) using the collage. I LOVE the colors! They're so very me. However, I'm not sure about the mock-up of the logo. I do plan on making some sort of graphic, as well... I just haven't gotten that far, yet.
I would love some feedback!
P.S. -- I know it's not perfect. I'm just a little excited to see my name in "logo" form... so I just wanted to post it up and get everyone's impressions.

i am no expert on logos or design...but i know what i like. i LOVE the colors! different and they really pop. i say go with the color scheme. i am not crazy about the font used for your name but that is such a subjective thing...everyone likes something different. i do like your name in blue better...better on the eye and easier to read. i wold love to see some sort of graphic/logo. good start!
i can't sleep so here is a quick stab at it...but i highly suggest getting a pro to help with design.

The color scheme is great.
Why spell photography with an 'ie'?
I don't really like the font, and the layout of it is pretty cookie-cutter. I'd definitely take what you've got so far to a professional, it's a good start!

Font is too hard to read....
I know you're in Canada, but the ie thing really that popular there? I don't like.
My 2c... or close to it.

LOVE the colors!! The logo options do nothing for me. Play around with some other fonts - and maybe an icon.

Love the colors - hate that Photography is misspelled - I think that'll bite you in the butt since you'll constantly have to tell people how to (mis)spell it.

I love your inspiration board and the color choices. Fresh and yummy. I agree you will run into problems with the purposely mispelled thing. i've got a friend who is a graphic designer who's supposed to be designing me something as return for me doing photos.. I'm just waiting..

I love the color scheme too - great choice! I would go with Design 1 over 2, however, because you want the eye to be drawn to the dark blue and, in the case of Design 1, that would be your name!
Like Melody, I do think you might get a lot of folks confused by the spelling of photography ... overall, nice work!

Thanks everyone!! Yes, I'm totally planning on going to a professional.... but I want to work out as much as I can before that point. I work at a custom invitation store and our graphic designer offered to come up with something for me... and I was not in love with it. At all. So, I want to make sure I have a good idea of what I'm looking for first.
I agree with pretty much all the criticism.
Is was a little on the fence about the "ie," as well... but I've heard a million times that you're really branding yourself and I tried to take that to heart. And it's not misspelled... it's in french. Both of my grandmothers are (and speak) french, so it's a big part of me. However, I hadn't thought about constantly having to remind people of the spelling... that alone is probably enough for me to change it.

French is part of your heritage and I think you should keep it. I like it.

Well, reminding people about the spelling isn't a big problem because it's not in your URL...
that would definitely be a deal-breaker. But in general, when someone's first language is English, and they use the spelling from another language (photographie, fotographie, etc) it just comes across as poser-ish to me.

i like the fun colors!!!!
just so you know... usually letters just typed in a fun font is called a "type treatment" and not a logo. I don't think that the "design" is memorable. However, I'm personally undecided re: the photographie. It might be something that people remember you by. Hmm... I'm not sure. Just my 2¢ though.

I totally agree, it lacks something special... but I LOVE the colors.
At least I've gotten something nailed down.

Love the colors, and I don't mind the spelling. I might put your name into more of a block font (find a unique one), with the "photographie" in script if you keep the spelling.

Ashley,
I like the color choice. I think #2 with your name in the Raspberry is a better choice. I like the font, but it doesn't say French to me.
Also - please correct me if I am wrong but maybe people would get the French hint (and not a misspelling) if you put La Photographe? Wouldn't that be for Photographer? I also think that the first letter in the second line should line up with the H in your name or the end of the line should line up with the last T in your last name. This is a simple alignment thing that will help.
Does that make sense at all?
I hope so.

I have to agree on the spelling of Photography. I get really turned off when it's not spelt correctly, especially when photographers use the word 'fotographica', (Itallian)
Having said that, your colors are gorgeous and I like the inspirational photos you posted.

I mean it does depend, are your clients mainly French? or english speaking and native? if they are then the "ie" will probably be a turn off, but as you said go with your instinct, alot of photographers here are european, and american so we dont all know the canadian market so well, especially the french side. You can have a strong brand without changing the ending of photography.

Make it "Photographer" instead - it is much classier and different from everyone else with photography and you don't have to mis-spell to standout a little. If you add assoicates you can be "Photographers" later like all the big shots.
