Well, I was out getting ready to shoot a local WPGA Starter tourney and I had remembered that there was a dust colony on my camera.. so large it was visible at 2.8. So I had just purchased some Eclipse cleaning fluid, so out it came and a swab. Funny thing, it left something on the sensor.. try again... Still there? WTF? OK.. pop open again and notice, it has TAKEN THE COATING OFF THE GLASS! Holy crap! This NEVER happened before and I've cleaned my camera tons with eclipse fluid over the 3 years I've owned it. Well, needless to say, I've found out you are now supposed to use Eclipse 2 fluid, not Eclipse. sad.gif So, learn from my $170 mistake (the cost to replace the low pass filter) Don't use Eclipse, use Eclipse 2 fluid or send it in if you are a CPS member.

ohhhhhhh ouchie..... That stinks! Complete bummer.... umbrella.gif

Well, If it makes you feel any better, I tried to clean my sensor last year and it got something on it. Not only did I have to send it in to CPS mine was fortunately able to be cleaned- but I think it cost about the same!), but first I had to spot the junk out of the 900 wedding images I took before I noticed it.... wacko.gif

Wow... that is awful.
My 40D is my first DSLR. Eventually I noticed dust on the sensor and called a local shop and they wanted $40 and two days. Being technically adept I knew the materials were available for me to do it. (tried the rocket blower, no go) So I bought the Eclipse fluid and swabs. Later realizing I had the wrong fluid as the E2 is recommended for the new sensor in the 40D. I contacted the mfr and they said it was probably fine to use the Eclipse but to get the E2 as soon as possible. Which is what I did. Don't know how at risk I put myself... keep in mind this is my first DSLR and I was super nervous about contacting the sensor. I would have died had I destroyed the sensor.

I will consider myself blessed. Sorry to hear what happened to you.
