Full Version: D300 Hot/Dead Pixels - Why?

Just wondering if this is common? While using a fairly high iso 800-1000 when looking at my pics in bridge, I have a few red and green pixels - always in the same place so I'm betting they're on the sensor. Why does this happen and how can I get it fixed? I had the same problem (even more so) on my D200. I know running it through Lightroom takes care of it but I don't think I should have these on a fairly new camera. Should I be thinking of sending my camera in to get those pixels mapped? I was hoping to get rid of this with the D300 and I don't think iso 800 is being unreasonable.

Wow, I don't know too much about this problem...but I've got a D200, D2x, and D300 and have never had this happen sad.gif Oh no, I did have a blue pixel after going on (camera) safari in Africa, but then I got my sensor cleaned and that took care of the problem!
Oh and I've pumped my ISO to 1600 for maybe 3 weddings this year on my D300 and been pretty happy with my results...I'd go to Nikon and ask them what's up...

Hopefully someone who knows a bit more responds too biggrin.gif

I was thinking it might be the sensor needing cleaning as well. Anyone do this themselves? I'm scared!!!! ohmy.gif

Tiny bit of grain that I took away with some smoothening, or did some "go with the grain" on smile.gif Actually I remember that for two of those weddings either the church or the reception site had this cool purpleish blueish ambient light that I wanted in the shots so that's why I pumped the ISO. biggrin.gif

I've never cleaned the sensor myself sad.gif I haven't found a photog around here that knows how to do it, so I suck it up and pay the 50 bucks sad.gif I saw videos on the internet about doing it, but I'm still too scared!!!
