I do NOT, but I like looking at the cool plants they've got on their back deck!
They've got this one plant that's technically a cactus, and it has huge blooms that grow out of the edges of the leaves -- it's really crazy!
To add to the craziness, the flowers only bloom at night, and they only bloom ONCE. Once a flower has bloomed, it withers & falls off.
When we were leaving for the fireworks last night, John (Mr. GreenThumb) saw that there were 2 blooms that looked about ready to open, so we checked on them when we got back from the fireworks, and they were wide open in the pitch black night.. and they smell awesome, too! The blooms are about 10-12 inches wide!
John has a digi-rebel, and he said he wanted to try to get some pictures of it. I said we should paint the flowers, so I showed him the general idea, and we went to town with a 10-22mm lens, a tripod, and a flashlight.
These are at a shutter speed of 25seconds, lighting the flower from behind, then coming around the front a bit to light the outter petals.
Painting flowers is fun

neato, huh?
