Full Version: My first head wound..
OpenSourcePhoto > Who We Are :-) > We lived!

Not wedding related, BUT still photography related.

Long, long story short.. Went to see a fireworks show last night. Then went looking for a spot in the country we could fire our measly few fireworks. We had some really big sparklers and I wanted to try and get some cool sparkler shots as well. All was going well, got some cool stuff, but then I wanted to play with the sparklers before they were all gone..lol.. so I told my husband to just take the pictures while I danced around.

*cough*

So.. a) I was wearing flip flops b) it was a gravel road c) spinning leaves you dizzy.

First, here's my spinning around with my sparklers:

About 30 seconds later I was on the ground bleeding from the head. Here is a run down of the general injuries:

I have a cut about 3/4 an inch long on the upper left hand side of my forehead, the area around my left browbone and left cheek is bruised and swollen, both of my knees are swollen and my right knee hurts so bad I can't even walk on it. Both of the heels of my palms are scraped up and bruised and I have a variety of little scratches and bruises on my toes, arms, etc.

Better yet, here are some quick and ugly (and the emphasis is on ugly) P&S pictures of my wounds from this morning.

By the way.. I was wearing JEANS. That is what happened to my knees THROUGH my jeans. I am glad I wasn't wearing a skirt like I normally do in the summer, my knees would have been a huge bloody, gravelly mess.

But.. I don't think I have a concussion, and I got lots of awesome firework pictures last night. So.. who cares if I can walk or not? tongue.gif

Goodness! Coming from one who just DID get a concussion and three stitches right about where your band-aids are, I certainly know how you feel! I'm sorry for you!!!

Take care - ice that knee, and just kick for the rest of the weekend - and 3 Extra Strength Motrin should take care of some of the aches and pains!

All the best,
Roxanne

Ouch!!!!! That's what we get when we try to act like kids again, with our aging bodies! LOL (said by a 28 year old - so I'm not calling you old!)
Brandi Thompson
Thanks ladies. There was discussion about taking me to the hospital for stitches but I said no.. lol. It's only about 3/4" and while it looks pretty nasty, it stopped bleeding so I figured it was fine!

The only bummer is today my husband is working on finishing a huge school project and so I am all alone.. and I have yet to train the dog to fetch me Diet Coke. Damn.

That's why you need kids: They can bring you stuff ;-)
Brandi Thompson
lol, yeah we need to work on that one.. hehe smile.gif

Ha ha, this past week I wanted to jump on my nephew's huge trampoline, so as an excuse I said, "lets go and play" you can see were this is going. He started to do somersaults, and I joined in. I was so worried that he was going to fall off that I did not notice how close I was to the edge. Did not fall over but totally zonked my head on the metal outer rim. As I start accessing my wounds he comes over, puts his little four year old arm around my shoulder and says very seriously, "Its okay Aunt Amy. You are a toughie!" referring back to the same phrase we use with him all the time.
Brandi Thompson
LOL. Amy that is really cute. Ouch.. Yes, I've always had a fear of trampolines, actually. I will jump on one by myself, but I would never jump on them with other people. One of my younger brothers got two teeth kicked out when we were little (luckily they were baby teeth).

Ouch! Were liquid party favors part of the problem? wink.gif - Jeff

Well, I had had like ONE drink, but I wasn't falling down drunk or anything.. smile.gif Although it may have helped the blood flow a little more freely.

That's all? Here I was expecting this gaping, nasty wound. tongue.gif

Being tall, I can't tell you how many knocks I've had.. most recently I was walking into the Village Cycle shop in Chicago, which is in a basement (low doors) and I didn't seem to catch them.. usually my radar picks them up.. but not this time, because I was in a hurry.. jogged right into the bracket that keeps the doors shut... Pain.. Pain.. PAIN.. and a nice LARGE egg that partially split open. 2 weeks later and the swelling is finally almost gone. sad.gif

Ouch, I know the head wound is bad, but I looked at your knees and groaned...I had one that looked almost that bad a couple weeks ago, it started to heal and then I banged it up a second time. Heal quickly!
Greta Reynolds
Ouch! Glad you're okay... Once I was walking (in flip flops) down a steep, pinestraw covered hill in our front yard - my husband and son like to sit in the lid from the sandbox and slide down the hill, so I was going to the bottom to watch for cars (we live on a very quiet street, but just in case, ya know). The pinestraw was slippery, I picked up momentum, couldn't stop, wound up directly in the road, and I got some nasty deep scrapes on my right palm and elbow. Oh, and carrying a cup of sweet tea too. Uh huh. I felt pretty dumb.

Thanks all for sharing your own injuries.. smile.gif At least I know I am not alone.

Trampoline = elastic injury accelerator.

I for one think flip flops are evil. I can't even walk in them. Give me a pair of three inch spikes any day, I can run in those. Flip flops trip me up walking down the hall.

I hope you get better soon. wub.gif

Thanks Sarah, I am actually feeling quite a bit better today, I can mostly walk and my face looks a lot less swollen, although I have a bit of a black eye..smile.gif I think I should be totally recovered by the end of the week outside of the scratches and left over bruises.
InThisMoment
oh my goodness bless your heart! And thank goodness for the jeans. Can you imagine all the gravel you would have had to pick out of those wounds???
SAS
Ouch!!! Boy that looks painful! I'm so glad you got some great pictures in before that!
