Full Version: Answer the Poll! - The Official OSP Event T-shirt

Hey guys!

I was working on the official OSPS3 t-shirts and had an idea that we could potentially use these shirts as an ongoing fundraiser for a memorial for Julie Steiskal, the wonderful OSPer who passed away on June 25th.

A wonderful man from another forum donated his time and talent to create a shirt design in memory of Julie that can be edited for any OSP regional or national gathering.

Before continuing I want to get everyones input on this. I think it's a great way to raise money for the bench, then continue to raise money for a scholarship to keep Julie alive in the community.

So, I need to get a good idea as to how many people are interested in buying shirts, if you'd want to use them for your local event (the text can be edited for Trash the Dress get together s, regional events, whatever you want to use them for), how much you'd be willing to spend (obviously you can donate as much as you'd like above the cost of the shirts).

For now, these will only be available at events - as shipping individual t-shirts would be a HUGE undertaking for any of us. This way we can pre-order them for the events, have them printed, and have them ready to pick up at the event.

Thoughts?

Below is the design, lovingly created by Dan from http://dklphoto.com/ (he also sells some amazing card/storyboard templates, actions, and other goodies - check them out)

If I ever got an opportunity to go to an event, I'd certainly love to have a shirt (great design!) and since as long as it's for a good cause, $30 wouldn't be a problem.

i would gladly donate wtihout getting a tshirt in return - and if that meant more money going towards the bench and the scholarship fund thingy we want to start, then i'm for that as well,

but i will go with whatever is decided.

I'll buy one - and even though it can't be shipped, I'll come to SOME OSP event to get mine!!! I voted!

Love the design, btw!

All the best,

It's a great idea, but that design, um, how do I say this nicely?

huh.gif

It's not very cool. Ok, go ahead, slam me.

Since you asked, black on white. Boring. What's the point of the swirlies? It looks kind of like a tombstone design and that's just weird considering what it is we're doing here. The stars look like they were just thrown in to add some interesting graphic element, but it doesn't work because it just looks busy. All caps type = hard to read, and, again, boring and not visually interesting. And instead of a direct "In loving memory of Julie Steiskal" line, it seems to me something like this is more meaningful to those of us who would wear it if the Julie-tribute part wasn't her NAME but something that meant something to her, like the quote from her Web site that we've been talking about using on the bench, or her osp title. "Life is short. Hold the apple."

So since you volunteered, how's your design coming? I like the distressed look, with maybe a whitewashed cotton shirt and I like the "Life is Short. Hold the Apple.". So let's see you work with that.

That's a good idea Mark. What about a fun, OSP design on the front and the quote on the back?

sorta like an inside 'joke' (for lack of a better term) - only those that knew her, would understand it..... our little secret.

hm... I voted yes in the beginning, but after the idea for the apple quote, I'm REALLY interested. I would MUCH more likely wear something like that. smile.gif

If someone is willing to design something else - please do and email it to me - the design's not set in stone and if people don't like it we can change it.

Single color is best, for cost reasons, but if people are willing to pay more - then a couple of colors can be throwin in to the mix. Needs to be something that can be changed though - as we'd want it to work on a black or a white shirt. wink.gif

How about a whitewashed shirt with a deep purple, almost black, distressed design.

Well, that how my almost worn out favorite shirt is now, and I'd like another. smile.gif

It could always be reversed to a lighter color for a black shirt.

But wouldn't the shirts be a "printed on demand" kind of thing, like through Zazzle.com, where the colors don't matter? I mean, we could design a multi-color (or two color or three color, whatever, thing) and people could put the design on any color shirt they want, right? Or, we could set a few colors that we feel best fit the design, and people could choose which one they want to buy.

Zazzle? Yes? No? (I LOVE my Zazzle shirts.)

That was considered - and may happen eventually - but at this time the purpose is to raise money for a memorial for Julie - and the amount that would have to be charged if we used Zazzle or CafePress or any of those type places and still raise money in the process would be well over $30 per shirt - the COGS when printing at a local print shop is considerably lower and they were offer an even more reduced rate due to it being a fundraiser. So, if the point is just to have a t-shirt then Zazzle would work - but with the point being raising money for her memorial - it just doesn't.

Hey everyone,

While I think this is a pretty good idea and all... I just wanted to let everyone know that there has been funds set up already in Julie's name.

Her parents want any monetary gifts to go to either the:

Camp Shamineau Scholarship Fund
P.O. Box 244
Motley, MN 56466
218.575.2240

&

Youth Investment / Timber Bay Camp
Scholarship Fund
P.O. Box 316
Medina, MN 55340
763.478.0500

I'm all for doing a bench in her honor as well, but thought everyone should know what has already been set up as a memorial for Julie. And I think it is so great that everyone has been so kind and everything throughout all of this. You guys rock.

Oh, and personally... I'd like to leave the apple quote out of it.
It was a silly thing between us and I would hate to see it get turned into some 'legend' or have it become akin to "carpe diem"...
Leann
You know the "Life Is Good" t-shirts? I think a logo with the same type of "feel" and the "Life is short, hold the apple" quote on them would be excellent.
