So I got a westbox 28x28 softbox, it's all ready to attach to my AB or regular flash, and I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help?
Westcott 28" APOLLO MONO (RECESSED FRONT) - WEAMR28

Thanks!

I just got mine and it took me a while. It's a pain in the ass. I don't think it will attach to the Alien Bees. That's a whole different setup there. The easiest way I found so far was to adjust the umbrella adapter so it is parallel with the floor. It will give you more room to get the center rod in the hole.

Do you have a speed ring that's compatible with both your softbox and light head?

this is the description of it.
The Westcott Apollo is a softbox based on an umbrella frame. It needs no speed ring to attach it to a monolight flash head. Simply open it, and slide the shaft into the umbrella receptor on the monolight. Light controls controls remain outside for easy access. A lightweight reflector plate may be purchased separately to produce indirect lighting.

it said it was for flash only - but reading the above statement makes me think it's for a monolight???

There should be a shaft that slides into the little hole at the top of your Bees. If you're attaching to a flash, you must have an swivel adapter like this one.

Hope that helps.

^what floyd said on the AB's. if you want to shoot a speedlight through it. you need a hotshoe flash umbrella holder. about $16. see zackarias.com and check the one light stuff!

never fear. I know what to do.

Buy this. note that this should have come with the "mono" version of this softbox. However there is a cheaper version of this softbox that does not come with this little thing.

and this. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/6276..._Plate_for.html

it should mount like this.

notice the light is pointing directly up into the box. The velco, or zippers are then supposed to close around it. Slip the mounting arm through the umbrella adapter on the monolight. Then slide the softbox umbrella shaft into the other side.

I have actually never done this myself, I researched the difference between the two softboxes online before buying.

If you are just trying to use a hotshoe flash then do this.

"inflate umbrella"
open zippers
slide lightstand with umbrella bracket through the zippers.
insert the umbrella shaft into the umbrella port on the bracket. This can sometimes be difficult. I often change the angle of the bracket to accomodate it.
Attach flash/pocket wizard.
Set flash power and aim head at back wall.
close the front diffusion panel.

There you go.

Not to thread jack, but can you still use something like Nikon's cls or would it be pw's only?
John Crozier
pw's or other radio signal transmitters only. no IR line of sight in side of this particular softbox.
