Okay folks, so I have a beautiful 1D Mark III that I have used for less than 10 weddings and I absolutely love it. However, I don't use anywhere near all of the functions and I only booked one bride for 2008, as this is my first year in wedding photography and I have yet to book another.

I was hoping that by this time I would be doing a lot more solos so that I could start paying down some of this equipment. I don't see that happening and I could really use some cash. Now, I still need a camera, so this where you guys can hopefully help out.

My 1D Mark III is absolutely beautiful and includes everything in original box (including warranty paper work), and an extra battery. I only had one problem with this camera. At the first wedding, I shut it off to travel and when I turned it back on, I got an error that said, Self-cleaning system malfunction. I turned it off and back on and haven't seen it since and that was a couple of months ago. I called Canon and they said that the error may have just been something fluky like the mechanism that shakes the sensor got hung up for a second. They said I could send it in for a look but didn't recommend it unless it started to happen often. Since it hasn't done it again, I haven't sent it in.

This camera has so many great functions for a natural light shooter but since most of my photography is done with second light, I don't use them.

I would like to trade for a 40D w/grip (and extra battery), plus $2400. With the current rate on 40D's, if I was to sell this outright for $3500, I could buy a new one but most people don't have $3500 to drop so I am offering up a partial trade.

Let me know what you have!

Thanks!
Mike

Would you be interested in a 5d with a grip ?
MikeRichards
I just wish the 5D had so many things and I would love it! Like highlight blinkies on the LCD in full view and a better AF. But maybe...

PM me with an offer.

trade for a mark II N??
MikeRichards
What would I do that for? wink.gif

Anyone got a D300 and thinking they might want to switch brands?

Just trying everything I can think of. All of the people I shoot with are Nikon shooters and for the time being if I had to sell all of my gear, I could borrow when I shoot with them til business picks up.

Hi Mike,
How soon are you looking to make the trade? I have a 40D I bought new in October and I am looking to upgrade. I just don't have the chunk of cash to put down in trade just yet, although I will probably have it in a few weeks. Let me know what you think!

Hey Amanda...we'll see. I am actually considering a move back to Nikon after all. Will let you know.

I would suggest waiting to see what the 5D Mark II looks like. If you switch back to Nikon to get the D700, the new 5D will make you crazy smile.gif

Looks like you have a nice little collection of lenses there for canon, and I'd say the 1D Mark III is good enough to be getting along with now. When the new 5D comes out you could probably sell the 1D and get the new 5D and the 40D after putting alittle more money in. That sounds like a good trade, and is the kit i'm waiting for.

If you switch back over to Nikon, you're gonna take a loss. Those SB-900's are going to street for 500 where the canon 580's probably cost you 350. Just something else to think about.

Don't do anything drastic just yet without seeing how canon responds to the D700.

Or if you do need the cash now you can do this trade for the 40D now, take the cash and continue to wait for the new 5D. When that comes out the 40D becomes backup and you can offload the 30D you have now.

I am not a huge fan of full frame so I am not making the switch for the D700 and I am sure the 5D II would kill it. I am a zoom shooter and I like Nikon's zooms more plus all of the photographers I shoot with use Nikon so it makes it easy that way too.

Is the SB900 really going to be that expensive? WOW!!! However, Nikon's flashes kill Canon's, IMO.

These things are generally expensive when released then come down after 6 months or so. The 580 II was close to, if not 500 at B&H when released. The 1D Mark III was also 5K when released.

No arguing the fact that Nikon's flashes kill canon's

FYI...my Mark III is a blue dot. I just pulled the box out of the office and there is a blue dot on the box next to the bar code.

Its up for sale now...let me know if you are looking to buy it.

What does a blue dot mean?
MikeRichards
From my understanding, it means it has the sub-mirror fix or means that it has passed Canon's tests since the AF issue came about.
