"A GoDaddy Vice President has been caught bidding against customers in their own domain name auctions. The employee Adam Dicker isn't just any GoDaddy employee; he's head of the GoDaddy subsidiary that controls the auctions."

This story has been blown out of proportion, Adam was bidding for himself and was bidding to win, not bidding for GoDaddy and not bidding to inflate prices. Also, 99% of all registrars that have in house auctions either permit this practice or do not expressly prohibit it. Some auction houses have even been known to cherry pick the best expiring names for their own portfolios before releasing the rest of the dropping names to the public.

People know GoDaddy so GoDaddy gets the press, but there is so much other crap that goes on in the domain world that you have no clue about... this is absolutely insignificant.

By the way, GoDaddy has officially banned the practice as of today.

For the love of God, do not use 1and1... their BBB file is almost as long as GoDaddy's.

Interesting-- a lot of people on here recommend them, and I've had nothing but superb experiences... (except for how much they freaking email me)... then again, I also manage to have a BluDomain site without too much hassle smile.gif

Every host and registrar has its problems, so just go with who you have the most success with. I dislike 1and1 with the same passion that many people dislike GoDaddy with, mainly for some cancellation terms that were in their agreement a few years back. Right now, I use Moniker (whose support is declining), GoDaddy (who has screwed over a good many people), eNom (who recently had some security issues), Fabulous (who has limited TLD and ccTLD registration capability, NetSol (who has more problems than you could ever imagine) and a few others.

Brady what tchoo talkin' bout? Godaddy's BBB file is no where near as long as 1and1's AND it actually RESOLVES complaints!? I have 1and1 currently and I had to deal with a collections agency because they didn't let me know that my Credit card on file expired. I just knew that one day my websites wouldn't work!

But really, i have to agree... I don't think and actually good webhost exists except for the rediculous dedicated places like rackspace etc.

ok so i am finding this hysterical beyond belief. i hope everyone who has suggested to use this company becasue of complaints about Blu, read this because compared to Godaddy, blu is a dream.

hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaahahhaahahahahahahahahh its just too funny actually.....

oh and this goes out especially to Sandra. ph34r.gif

Sorry Tami I've got to disagree. There's a big difference between Blu's failure to respond to 7 of 32 complains when godaddy responded to all of the complaints thus far. And seriously look at the MASSIVE difference in # of subscribers. 232 isn't bad when you look at the number of cusomters each has.

I'm not really defending godaddy but I'd rather deal with a company that atleast addresses compalints than one that doesn't. The's always the developer oriented SliceHost that doesn't even HAVE a BBB file. Hmm... i think i'm on a mission to find a decent webhost.

I've used GoDaddy for every domain I've registered (which is quite a few) since the company got started. I have never had a problem with them. This seems like an isolated incident. I have always been impressed with the customer service and level of control you are granted over your own domains.

In contrast, I have had the WORST time ever dealing with another registrar that my current employer was using before I got here. I switched everything over to GoDaddy that I could. I can't even get into all the suckage I experienced with the other registrar because my blood pressure will go up. They had ONE customer service tech, who wasn't bright enough to find her way out of a shoebox. I needed to have 2 incredibly simple questions answered and the first exchange took literally 27 emails and after the second, I quit after about 12 and just gave up. These were bits of info she could have looked up in seconds if A.) She had any functioning brain cells, and B.) she wasn't hell bent on being completely difficult to work with. This same registrar held another domain hostage for 3 months in complete violation of ICANN rules and regulations and basically tried to extort me. THEN when I told them they could keep it and I would eventually get it re-registered (at this point it was a personal battle of wills and I would not let them win) they told me it would be impossible because someone else would get to it first. They clearly don't know me too well. smile.gif

I called GoDaddy and the lady I spoke to told me she would personally check the domain everyday until it became available. I did the same. I got the domain. The people at GoDaddy have always been awesome on the phone and have returned emails promptly.
littler chicken
A friend recommended their host (ICDSoft) to me and I love love love love them. Never had heard of them otherwise but I have been thrilled with every aspect of the hosting so far. Tech support has helped me with a handful of questions (never issues, so far) and has answered every email within minutes.

In contrast, I'm helping my girls' ballet studio with their site and am using Hostmonster at their request, and I wish I had put my foot down. Their backend is busy, makes it hard to find things, and when I ask for tech support, it takes at least a day to hear back (and then it's generally a "please verify your account information and then we'll think about helping you" answer).

I use GoDaddy for the registration because I read that it was safer to spread your hosting and registration across two companies. I had gotten roped into using some Australian company before I switched to GoDaddy and had a horrible time getting any help or information from them. GoDaddy has been a dream in comparison.

I've had great service from GD as well. They even call every few months just to check how things are going and if I'm having any problems.

+1

Then again, I've had no issues with Blu either. ph34r.gif
