Full Version: 5D shutter issue

On a recent e-session I had my shutter button stop working on my body. Luckily, I have a vertical grip and the shutter button on that worked. I had to shoot the whole session using the shutter on the grip. When I got home it started working again. Has anyone else had this problem with the 5D? If so, do I need to have it looked at or is something that will just continue to happen on occasion?

My second shooter had this problem. Eventually the camera stopped responding at all. It was sent to canon for service, came back ok, they replaced a circuit board. 2 weeks later and it's back at CPS acting up again. sad.gif I'll let you know the outcome...

Ouch! That is exactly what I am worried about. Thanks for the heads-up.

This just happened to me at a wedding yesterday. It sucked. So I went to my 20d which worked fine, but I really don't like the crop factor so it was a bummer having to work with that. But I'll be calling CPS here in a few minutes.

Ugh! Mine did this to me this weekend too! It came back to life after a few minutes but still... I guess I'll be sending it in. Please post your outcome!

Thanks!

Knock on wood that mine hasn't, but what in the world is the common denominator that this happened this weekend? Maybe it's the heat.

Mine has not come back on and definitely needs to be sent in. Not only did my 5d just stop working, but I switched to my backup 20d and it just wouldn't work with my flashes at all. So thankfully I had rented a 24 1.4 for this weekend and shot the whole reception with no flash and that 1 lens, occasionally putting my 50 1.4 on.

Then at one point I went back to my bag to get my macro lens, and my 5d was burning hot (even though it was turned off and had no lens on it). So I popped the battery out but I'm just thinking that can't be good.

Then for the all time topper offer, my macbook pro also decided it wasn't happy or something last night and has gone berserk on me and had me on the phone for 4 hours this morning trying to remedy only to be told I have to send it in, they have no idea why its doing the crazy things its doing.

I guess when it rains it pours, and I live in the desert so I'm sure not used to the rain!

Man, you are having a bad week. I hope you get everything worked out. My 5D hasnt got hot on me but that might be around the corner.

I had the same issue for a while so I thought it was an on and off issue. Well, one day, it just completely died on me. I sent in to Canon and they replaced my shutter completely for $350. I got it back a few months back and it is working fine now <knocking on wood as I type>

Had also some weird behaviour on my 5D. Once during my first engagement session I could not dial in the aperture any more. Switched it off, turned it on, changed lens and then somehow it came back to life.

The 5D really seems to have its own mind rolleyes.gif
