Hi all,

one of our members needs our support - how about it?

depaulaphots and her husband are shelling out a lot of money for cancer medicine.

There are 8,063 members in this forum. A pledge of only and average of $5 per member would be fantastic if only 1,000 members took up the cause.

I am happy to organize this if enough people will step up to the plate. Come on, 5 bucks, the price of a coffee in Starbucks!!! That could save a life.

Lets show this member what we are made of. Please!

Hugh

I'm in. Tell me what to do next.

Cool. You guys are great. As I said in another posting, I have had a child with cancer, not nice!!! Fortunately for me I was in the UK at that time and did not have to worry about this sort of thing.

Keep it up. Let's call it a good deed of the day. My pledge is $20. But EVERY dollar counts.

OSP'ers have a *very* recent history of giving money and feeling taken advantage of so I'd be very VERY surprised if you hit $5k but I hope everything works out for the member in question.

I fully appreciate that. I am hoping that enough people will realize that a few dollars wont break the bank. As I said, I will produce detailed reports of the account activity.Just for the record, anyone who knows me want to step up and vouch for my integrity? DJ, you know me. Christine Trip, you know how I dealt with the shipping overpayment you sent to me. Rest assured, this will be done correctly and honestly.Hugh

UPDATE:

ok, so a while has passed now and there have been three donations, very generous ones I might add. But three, I wonder what percentage of the people on this board right now is? At the time of writing there was 101 views. Only a 3% response?

Funny, when there are presets for sale, or expensive equipment, the post has a hive of activity. Why not now?

Folks, do I have to plead, on bended knees, to spark some action? It does not have to be $20, or even $10. Hell, if enough people throw in $2 it will soon mount up.

I know the pain of this situation, and I would not wish it on any of you. But, I must also say that our member in need must be somewhat disappointed in the response so far.

I know people or wary of things like this, but this is "one of our own", not an anonymous email in your inbox.

It's easy, will take you two minutes, and,

YOU WILL FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF ALL DAY LONG!!!

Take action, now. (bet you are all going to be sick of me before long, just be aware, I am annoying you for all the right reasons) biggrin.gif

Hugh, your intentions are noble. I can and will donate, BUT I do agree that your "UPDATE" was out of line. Sorry to say... But we all have a right to donate when and how we choose and pressure isn't going to make your totals any higher.

Point taken. It was not meant as pressure, sometimes a lot of us need a little prod. I am always getting around to stuff, and never get around to it.

If anyone is offended, you have my apologies. I just want to try and ensure that those of us who intend to do something, do.

Those of us who don't want to do anything, or can't or whatever, that is perfectly fine.

Hugh

Not to pile on, but an hour and a half is really not much time at all. I read the boards while I'm working, but I'm not in a position to make a decision about donating until I get home. I feel for their situation, I really do, but there are thousands of things that are equally noble vying for my money. Trying to guilt trip turns me off to wanting to help out with this particular cause.
Hugh Anderson
ok, I will now bow out of this thread. I had only good intentions, but it seems to have backfired.

The donations this far, and any others that come through will be forwarded to the person in question. If anyone wants to nominate themselves to verify the details, that would be great.

If I offended anyone, as I said earlier, I apologize. I just got a little enthused, and felt for the plight of the OSP member.

I will now let it run it's own course.

It's sad, but it is true.

I believe if there is another way to raise money (someone mentioned after the last "incident," that the money be channeled through a church...
I'm not sure of other ways.

I know that there are many feeling hesitant due to the recent incident. It is unfortunate.

My prayers go up... I hope this family gets some help where they need it.. 51.gif

Hugh I hope you don't bow out. I would like to donate, but I will send it via mail if thats ok.

Yeah, is there a church or something like that that is collecting donations via mail?

I was actually wondering if there was some sort of "trust" fund set up. Many banks offer this sort of thing in order to give people the peace of mind in knowing that the money is being used "appropriately" and also to help with tracking what comes in for expenses (I believe there may be some tax benefits as well). I might suggest that something similar be set up for this purpose, so as to allay the fears of the wary. "Appropriate" could mean that the funds can only be used for medical care, prescriptions, etc. or it could mean that it can be used for that, plus groceries, rent, utility payments - but specific expenditures to limit how spent.

Just a thought.

Exactly what I was looking for. There is a family in my town that is going through a very similar thing -- and the town set up a trust at the local bank to pay for food deliveries and cleaning help as well as utility and medical bills. Plus, you can contribute to this fund in a private way, meaning that the family's name and medical history doesn't have to be disseminated all over town.

please note: there are other ways of helping - if anyone is in her area and can maybe help out with household stuff - i dont know her situation, but i know that when traveling back home from another state, considering her circumstances, things like grocery shopping (picking up a few essentials like milk and bread and eggs) can be highly appreciated.

MD Anderson has a really nice food court that has a starbucks - starbucks cards (loaded) are a nice thing as well because they serve food too. we all know about hospital food!

if she has any albums that need designing - maybe help her with that so she doesnt get backlogged.

does she have any pets that need taking care of?

sometimes it the little things that make such a big difference in someone's already chaotic life. wink.gif

+1 to tami's suggestions.

also, regarding the financial side...
there are a lot of resources available to help people pay for treatment. it will take searching, but there are resources available.

The bottom line is that someone still needs help, regardless if you felt someone came across in a certain way.

Whether you give $5, walk their dog or buy them coffee... It's still helping someone in need.

I'd like to help...

Having been in an almost idetical situaition with my own husband these past few months, I KNOW what a blessing any help will be to this family, no matter how big or small.

Is anyone around here good/close enough friends with the family to know what their needs are? And where can things such as Starbucks cards, meals, etc. be sent?
Hugh Anderson
Hi all,

I said yesterday that I would bow out of this thread since my enthusiasm ran away with me, and I seem to have upset some folks.

However, I still need to keep you updated as to the financial progress. So, below is a screen grab from the Paypal account.

Please note that the entry at the bottom of the list is money we transferred out prior to this, all entries above are donations. I have blurred the names, assuming that is the proper thing to do. Let me know if you think otherwise. The document is time stamped above the transactions.

Have a great day.

Hugh
