Full Version: How Do I Make a Drop Shadow
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Post Processing

I am doing some side product work for a website. I am having to cut out items they sell and put them on a white background for their website. Some of the objects are mostly white to start out with and need a drop shadow to separate them from the background. I have tried...no success so far.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

It's in Layers--->Layer Styles

The default settings are pretty harsh, so mess around with opacity, distance, angle, spread, and size.

Or just click the layer styles button at the bottom of your layers palette.
You'll see the Drop Shadow option there as well.

If you are in InDesign it is under the effects window- Illustrator- under stylize- good luck!

Thanks so much. I think my problem was that my cut out image was on the locked background. Once I duplicated that layer before I cut it out..then my background was checked...then it gave me the option to use the drop shadow. It was previously grayed out.

THANK YOU.

You have saved me so much time. This place rocks!!

An easier way is to just double click the little lock symbol on the background layer in the layers palette. It should be completely editable then.
