I'd like to get a film camera, maybe something under $300 or so, just to play around with and do some fun stuff with. Any suggestions???

Thanks!

Check craigslist in your area i'm sure you can find one for under $150.

Or Brandnew from B&H RebelT2

Or a Nikon FM10 from B&H

Are you currently shooting canon or nikon?

I still have a Nikon N90s that's in great shape if you're interested! Cheap! smile.gif

I have an 8008s. Predecessor to the N90. I also have a 35-105 lens that's great for portraits. I have no idea what they're going for nowadays, but I'm sure it's not much.

Film? What is this.. film.. you speak of? wink.gif

Just kidding.... I actually have a Nikon N80 I'd part with for cheap. It's actually in great shape. I hung on to it thinking I'd play around with it, but I don't ever see shooting film again.... at least not 35mm. wow.... I don't think Iwould have said that 5 or 6 years ago.

Yes, check the various forums.

I bought two Nikon N90s for $150. It was a great deal, and it was funny to have two cameras like the one that I started to use when I first worked for newspapers - but had to save up nearly $900 to purchase.

Crazy how times change.

Canon elan 7 bodies go for under $100 now, and they are really nice if your a canon shooter.

Yeah, it makes me 17.gif when I see how little my Elan 7E is worth now. I love that camera. I know I should sell it, but I just can't bear to do it. You can find film SLRs for next to nothing on craigslist now.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I'll look around. Well I have both canon and nikon but building up my canon gear. only have 2 nikon lenses and a d70s body...Craigslist eh? I'll scope it out. Again my budget is under like 300 bucks maybe 200 better so if anyone wants to sell something for that, lemme know! TaraI somehow blanked on this and realized im not sure if my lenses will work on the film cameras. my fav lense to work with on this would prob be canon 50mm f1.4, and i think that could work on canon film bodies of the older type right?

I would get a Canon A2 EOS body, probably $100-150 in EX condition (try www.KEH.com). That way you can use all of your EOS lenses (except EF-S lenses).

I'll sell the 8008s for $85. If you want the 35-105 lens, too, add another $50. The lens is the "D" model that was only made for a couple years. This camera has a 1/250 flash sync speed, which is very handy. Also has a spot meter in addition to the center-weighted and matrix mode. Takes easy-to-find AA batteries. Has a high-eyepoint viewfinder, which makes it very easy to see through --you don't need to have your eye right up against the camera to see everything in there. I loved this camera for a long time, but haven't used it in a few years.
8008s Specs

Let me know if you (or anyone) is interested.

I second the Elan 7

I agree--the A2 was my first camera (still have it), and it has been a great one!

There are also some really fun medium format film cameras out there...

I've got a Nikon N70 with a 75-300, and a 28-85 lens that I wouldn't mind getting rid of. Barely used.

I second the A2...that's what I have. I'd probably sell it but I think it is worth more to me sitting in the drawer!

Aside from all the fine offers the forum folks are making, check out a used film body at KEH. I've had excellent experiences with purchases there.
