I just started using In Design. I am new to flush mount album designs. I have offered them for a couple years, but all my customers were staying with the traditional, and not wanting to spend the money for the upgrade to a flush mount.

So, I decided to start doing pre design. I bought Kevin's tutorial, and Ben and Laura's templates + tutorials. (They are both GREAT by the way...)

So, here is my question. When you are doing a predesign, when do you edit the images? I do a rough edit for proofs (WB, Crop, Exposure). But, for final prints on albums, I remove blemishes and glass glare, soften skin, whiten teeth, sharpen ect... I do NOT do this on all my proofs. In doing a pre design, I do not want to take the time to do this to each image if they are going to switch out the image for a different one, or if they are going to eliminate an entire spread all together.

The way I understand it, is when using in design, in design will just link the image to the page until you export it. So, I could edit the images after they aprove the album design, before I do a final export. It will then export the page with the edited image. Is this correct? What do you do, and when do you do the final edit on the images?

Hi Kari,

We actually edit out the top 100 images the week after the wedding ... I do advanced edits to these & we use these for the online slideshow, the "photographer's favorites" in the online proofing, as well as for the album pre-design. This way the images in the album look exactly how we are envisioning them ... and we rarely have many changes to the album (typically just family picture changes, etc.)

To answer your question ... yes, if you edit the images after the album design is done (and keep the files in the same location with the same name), Indesign will automatically input the new edit the next time you export the pages.

hope that helps!

Thanks Ben, That does answer my question. Now that I understand how lightroom works, I might have to rethink where I am pulling images from to make the album. I think I will make a seperate ALBUM folder like you recommend in your tutorial. I LOVE your tutorial BTW.
Thanks!
