Hello friends....

Not sure if this is the best place to post this question. But I need some help deciding what small business accounting software to purchase.

I have a Mac and run Leopard. I have very very little experience with Quickbooks, and it seems a little confusing. I'm not looking to do anything over the top with the software. I just need to keep my books, do invoicing, and taxes. And I would like something user friendly that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I use MYOB Accountedge and have been very happy with it.
David from Puerto Rico
I also use AccountEdge and very happy with it.

IMO all accounting software, no matter how easy they say it is, I find it confusing still.

I compared quickbooks and Accountedge and they are very similar. I chose Account Edge mainly because in the past Quickbook support for mac has been rather spotty and that Account Edge has several features that Quickbook does not have.

They both have free trials and what I did and suggest is to try them both, create a company and follow thru the whole process, see if you can customize it to your way of working.

One of the reasons that both AccountEdge and Quickbooks are good options to start with is because they're both software that are sold by big (Intuit) and developing (MYOB) companies. There is lots of accounting software out there to choose from, even for the Mac, but if it's smarter to buy software that is in ongoing development, supported by a significant company, and that offers support for accountants (both of these do).

I went with Quickbooks, mainly because it's a lot easier to find accounting firms that are familiar with the software and can support it. I don't want to have to spend time explaining the new software to the accountant, have to switch on them later when the software is no longer in existence, etc. You want continuity with your software.

I ended up buying VMWare and a copy of Windows for my Mac which allowed me access to Internet Explorer to run Quickbooks online, and I'm so glad that I did. It allows my accountant to access my account without me ever having to go in to their office, take them backup files, etc. There is already a mini version of Quickbooks online for the iPhone, and I'm sure that a full version that works in Firefox/Safari is in the works.

I just got Biz Books from IthinkTink. It is geared towards photographers and I've found it really worth it. I think she is still running a sale.
