I really need some help here guys. My 5d screwed up a couple of times during my shoot today. It gave me an err 02 reading and wouldn't fire. I turned it off and on a couple of times and switched the battery in it and eventually got it working again. Actually i got it working and this happened a few times before I changed the battery. After I changed the battery though it wouldn't show any images that I had shot since I had started having the problem - which was only a couple - not a big deal. So i just got home and loaded the card into my computer and its showing funky symbols instead of saying eos - and its not showing any images. what do i do????

this was an e-session - so obviously i need to get something to the clients. any help would be hugely appreciated! thanks!

Err 02: CF DRIVER
DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in the camera or if the 5D does not detect a card-ready signal within a specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card.

REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera, check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem, then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have the EOS 5D and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined by a qualified service technician.

You probably need to reshoot it.

i stuck the card back in the camera and its showing the images, so my husband was able to get the images off the card with lightroom, but i still dont know whats wrong with the camera. it wouldn't shoot for like a minute or two yesterday when i was shooting, but it wasn't saying error...so i guess i need to send it in. thanks for your help!

So this is where you put that camera back in the bag and get the other one out. You do have another? You wouldn't go to shoot a paying gig without a back up, right?

Of course I shoot Nikon, so that backup is never needed. biggrin.gif Seriously, you do need a back up.

This does not sound like camera problem. It sounds like a card issue. Have you tried other cards in the camera to see how they work? If you do not have the error with other cards you should replace this card and not use it again. It could be damaged or corrupted. If it does it with other cards then I guess it is the camera but I am betting it is the card. Thank goodness you were able to get the images off though. Glad to hear that.

+1,000,000,000 to a backup and then a backup of the back up if you are shooting a wedding.

Something similar happened to me. I used a program found through googling "CF card recovery" or something relating to that. (can't totally remember). It didn't cost too much for the program and it was able to get the lost files off of the card. The card itself is DOA, but at least I was able to get the raw files.

I think it was data recovery or card recovery.

Good luck!

Edit: Sorry I didn't see the post where you said your husband got the files!!

Same thing has happened to me.. it's so frustrating! We acutually had to send our camera in and got a new replacement (this was on our D300). Glad to hear that you were able to get the images though!

mine did this last year. Sent it to canon and they said that one of the pins inside the card slot was bad and so it wasn't writing to the card properly. Works great since I got it back. Only took them about a week

Hi,

this is the husband here!

Yes, we do have a back up camera, we shoot with 2 5D's and keep a 20D in the bag also. But this was a situation where the camera seemed to stall, but then went on ok. Shots were being taken, and showing up on the card.

When I got the images imported with Lightroom it said that there was one file that was corrupted. That file seemed to cause the problem in the import process.

All is well now, and we were both shooting so it would not have been a complete disaster - scary none the less!!!

Thank you all.

Hugh
