Right now I use lightscribe CD's and burn my name and usually a picture onto the cd. I want something more than black and white though.
Any companies you recommend, I googled cd labels and there are just way to many to pick from!

thanks smile.gif

Hi,

ok, I am not to up on the recent stuff, but when you say labels, are you talking about labels that stick onto the CD? If so, don't do it.

The labels can become unstuck, especially when you think of the heat inside a computer, the adhesive becomes brittle, the label raises somewhat, then the CD, spinning at a very fast speed, becomes unbalanced and noisy.

In the past I have had many times I had to remove labels just to get the CD or DVD to read properly.

What about a printer? I use an Epson printer, use an image from the event, prints straight onto the DVD. The quality these days is very good and you can output a very professional looking disk.

Hope this helps.

Carey Schumacher did a post earlier in the year about a color CD label printer. I believe it was something advertised in Rangefinder. I did a quick search of the forum but was not able to find Carey's post.

I print directly onto printable disks with an Epson rx595. The results are great.

yes, as per my previous post, avoid anything that involves sticking paper labels onto CD's.

Then there is stuff like this:

Disk Printer

The benefit of course of buying an Epson printer that does CD/DVD's is that you can use it for regular printing for your business, not just disks. You can get one for about $100, or pay more for a better model.

Epson RX 680 Printer works awesome as well. But, you need to get high quality CD/DVD's. The best I've found are these.. http://www.mediasupply.com/tayuwa16xdv5.html
Glossy almost to the center DVD's...just gorgeous..no smudging at all on any of them even after I ran them under water right after printing.

Agreed! Taiyo Yuden are reckoned to be the most reliable brand of DVD. We use them, no problems.

One thing, when burning DVD's that are important, burn them at a slower speed than the writer can achieve. Although we can write at apparently up to 16x, I prefer to burn DVD's for archival purposes at 2x. Much less chance of an error in the burn.

We got our DVD's printed at Bison Optical Disc in Orlando. (bisondisc.com)

They aren't labels, they print on the CD's (or DVD's). They were so helpful and really easy to work with and provide a great product. Plus, you don't have to worry about the ink smudging or getting ruined if it gets rubbed or damp like with labels. They were very reasonable prices too.

They don't charge per color either like some other screen printers which is nice. smile.gif

We grabbed an Epson R280 for like $75. Prints directly onto the DVD and the results are awesome. We tried the same thing with Memorex and Avery stick on labels early on and it just doesn't compare at all. We just use Memorex printable DVD-Rs and love the results.

I'd LOVELOVELOVE to see examples! I've been using my LightScribe, which magically etches whatever you want in black/gold. What about the thermal heated printers?
