Hi Everyone....
I need your opinion.
I know the 5D replacement is coming out soon. If I'm not mistaken, the target month is September. As we all know, the 5D right now is on sale in B&H for $1899. My question is, do you think I should wait for the 5D replacement or should I buy the 5D now.
Please let me know your opinions.
Thank you and have a nice day.

How much additional monthly profit will a 5D return if you buy it now?

What if you wait two months?

Compare the figures. Only you know if you need it now.

If you don't need it now, wait. Same advice as I would have given a year ago. Or next month. biggrin.gif

Sorry to add a question, but how much will the new 5D be? Can you afford that?

I just bought a used 5D a month or so ago (I had a 40 D and needed a second camera) and I don't regret it. I'm still gathering the lenses i need, so I can't imagine i'll be the first in line to buy the new 5D.

Keep us posted on what you do. I'm excited to see what Canon does, but I just had to do what was right for me and for what I need right now.

Thank you Eric and Betsy for responding.
Eric, I have a few weddings this summer. Actually, most of my weddings will be done by the time the 5D replacement comes out.
I like your questions Betsy "how much will the new 5D be? Can you afford that?"
When 5D just came out, I couldn't afford it. So I'm guessing, if the 5D replacement comes out I probably can't afford it as well.
I heard so many positive feedback about the 5D + the sale price right now that its hard to pass it.
Anybody here experiencing any problem with their 5D?

I don't have a 5D, nor have I ever shot with one, but one thing that gets me a little down about potentially buying one in the future is that the max sync speed for strobes is only 1/180 or so, not 1/250 like most dslrs. If you're doing any off-camera lighting, that can be a real bummer.

1/200. Which is 1/3 stop difference from 1/250. 1/3 stop doesn't make that much of a difference in real world situations. If 1/200 isn't fast enough, chances are good 1/250 isn't, either. Just close down 1/3 stop on your lens, and you're back in the game.

I have 2 bodies w/battery grips and I love them.

No issues...

Oops. I was a little off in the speed. However, when shooting with small strobes and trying to knock down the ambient, 1/3 stop can make a difference.

I don't think you can go wrong if you do buy the 5d. You can always save up and buy the new one and put the 5d in you bag as a back up.

I agree with the above statement. The 5D is sooo worth it, you will love it. Then I would say later this year or next pick up the new version also and make the old 5D you're back-up (thats my plan at least). rolleyes.gif

Thank you guys for responding. I just bought a new 5D this morning....yay!!! clap.gif
I know, I know....for some of you, 5D is old now. But to me, its spanking brand new. laughing.gif And I'm so happy every time I have a new camera.

Anybody here using a 24-105 f/4 lens? I tried it this morning with my 5D and I almost bought the kit. Yikes!!! Too much money for now.

Ohh and anybody here changed their settings on their 5D?

I have the 24-105 and the 24-70, both are great lenses, I probably prefer the 24-70 for the 2.8 though over the IS on the 24-105. If you're going to be shooting with a 5D you might as well put some good L glass on it. You'll also probably want something a little wider and another lens a little longer too. 16-35 and 70-200 will get you covered.

I have all the L-lenses you mentioned except for the 24-105. I just like the idea of not changing the lens constantly.

Did you change any settings on your 5D?

I need help. When I put my 5D on Manual mode, the f-stop is not changing. Am I suppose to change any settings or anything?
HCT
i would save the money and buy the current 5D. the demand for the new 5D will be extremely high which will be nearly impossible to get like when the 1Dn mark III came out.

push it past the On button to the little slant thingy.

Jose,
I have the following lenses (I think we PM'd about this)
17 - 40 f/4
24-105 f/4 IS
70-200 f/2.8

I went with the f/4 on the 2 lenses due to monetary issues, I wanted the coverage, with out the massive price tag. I wanted overlapping lenses, and I have not been disappointed.

When shooting, 1 body has the 24-105 and the other body I will switch around.
I usually change up the iso, lenses, w/flash w/o flash, etc.

When I use AV mode and I try to over expose the subject by using +/- on top of the camera, its not over exposing. Am I doing something wrong?
twake
Same answer as above, move the on switch to the 2nd spot. That activates the wheel, which then allows you to +/- the exposure.

I hate that there are 2 positions, i never shoot without the wheel active, and it annoys me so much that when i am at a wedding i tape the switch with gaffers tape to the full on position. On my 40d i can just brush against the on switch and change it smashpc.gif
