Hi all,

I rented a MK III and am having some fun with it. I'm used to scrolling through focus points on my 40D, but am having a harder time on the MK III. There seem to be too many buttons (I'm also very used to using * button focus).

Anyway, how do you all have your MK III's set up for use? Would love to hear especially from girls with smaller hands!

Thanks!

Everything's better with the joystick. and the patch.

joystick to select focus points,

af-on button to back button focus.

enable custom function to disable the shutter from focusing

I was tinkering with the MKIII this weekend and figured out a way to do what is essentially the back button focus technique (which I love to use) but without having to actually press the * button and hold.

I'm heading to a shoot but if anyone's interested, I'll take a look at what I've done and post it up. Essentially, I selected the center focus point and left it there. Then, putting the center point right on what I want to be in focus, I press the shutter half way to lock focus (instead of pressing the * button), and recompose as desired. The focus sticks and has been dead-on. I'm loving it! Sweet! thumbsup.gif

Glad your liking your 1D3 Matt! I love mine!

Everyone here is right, with the new firmware, you can use the joystick to select the AF. I also shoot like Matt does...press shutter half way to lock focus then recompose.

That sounds great! Do you know that Custom Function to set that?

I tried the joystick, and I'm finding my hand a little small to reach all the way over there!
