What are meta tags and all the stuff that I can add in when editing my Blu site?
Rachael Earl
Meta tags are your keywords/phrases that basically let search engines know what your site is about. They used to be used a lot for placement in the search engines, but I think too many people figured that out...
erinna
yeah, they are the description and keywords that pop up in search engines when people search.

So you include things like your country, state, variants on your name, types of photography you do etc smile.gif

And they are used to increase search engine status, but other things help, such as the number of other sites linking to your site. smile.gif

Google does not actually use the Meta tags in the search feature. They only use them this way: " While the use of a description meta tag is optional and will have no effect on your rankings"

Yeah, I've heard Google goes more off your page title and the actual look/function of your site.

Meta Tags are used by Google in the description part of your web page.

When someone preforms a search on Google and your site is listed. The part below the link with a description of your site is either going to be random text that Google pulls from your site OR it will be what you want Google to display by using Meta Tags.

When I search for my own company the description I see is what I typed into my Meta Tags and Google lists as the description of my website.

So if you want to control what is displayed when someone performs a search on Google the use Meta Tags to do this.
