Is anyone else as frustrated / disappointed with Lightscribe as I am? Granted, I have a four year old desktop PC with 768MB of RAM...but I don't understand why I have to fight so much to get a dang LS label burned!
I'm about ready to give up on LS (I sense that possibly others are as LS discs are getting harder to find)...and go the route of a new printer with direct disc printing capabilities. Sucks though...I already have 4 printers...it bugs me to consider buying a 5th! (Why should it bother me???? I have 4 scanners...4 desktop PCs...2 laptops...que the "Sanford and Son" theme music...LOL)
Sorry... /vent

dan you are SO not alone. I got my LS about 1 yr ago and thought it would be great. The discs look nothing like the photos on the front of the boxes. THey are dull, hazy and sometimes practically invisible. I even tried different design programs hoping for better results, nothing changed. So I gave up on it and just went back to printing sticky labels.
Then I saw these new HP discs claiming "quicker, sharper than original LS media" WOOHOO! um.....what a joke. They were WORSE quality! And I find that the CDs are much nicer burn quality than DVDs but still not what it should be. Anyway, long story short, I got an Epson ??? that prints directly to the discs, but its a Christmas gift from the in-laws so its all wrapped up under the tree.

We love lightscribe but we burn each disk twice on "best" quality - long story short it takes 40 mins to Lightscribe a disk so you can imagine that it NEVER gets done. We just send out blank or normal disks which sucks so we're going to be finding a new solution.

I have burned 20+ and only had one crash - they look goos to me but could be a little sharper. But my expectations are met. The photos are easily recognizable and the brides love em.

Matt, what do you do to double burn? How does it keep the photos aligned?

I'm curious as to the double burn as well Matt.
I purchased a bunch of LS DVD's on sale, and have noticed a considerable difference in these ones over the original 10pack of a different brand name that I had purchased.
My clients LOVE them though. But, I might invest in a disc printalbe printer soon, and just do the direct print discs.

Yea, they tricked me into getting one of thier CD burners too. I burned a few and they all look horrible. I'm searching for other options as well.

thanks for all the info. I've been looking into printable disc options and these posts definitely help!

Do a Google search for an add-on program called Lightscribe ELCU. You can set it to darken the original - it will also take 2x as long as the original...

Hmmm... I love mine. It always blows everyone away when I make one.
I design the label in photoshop, adjust levels to give it a harsh contrast, waaayy over sharpen to give it halos and then apply a one point poster edge and it lends itself nicely to the discs.
It ends up looking like this...

Ooh, I'm going to try that, Sarah. Makes sense uping the contrast.
I've tried the Memorex LightScribe DVD+R version (yucky and soft) and got a bunch at Walmart for almost 1/2 the price of LightScribe HP CD-R and they work better. But still not the same as the example at Best Buy (but my clients are impressed).
Didn't want to get into buying my own thermal printer and have to deal with the ink levels.
