I did the update yesterday, now my ichat wont work. Once I start ichat, and double click on a name I want to chat with, ichat crashes.

I've restarted a couple of times already. Any advice?

Ditch Ichat and get Adium.. free and better if you use multiple accounts like I do.

What version Mac OSx are you running? 10.5.3? You can't even open the program?


One utility that I use to clean up and repair permissions if I'm having issues is OnyX - it's a free app... I absolutely love it. If something seems to be freezing on me... doesn't happen a lot I run OnyX and it's fixed for the most part.
Plus it's great to clean up unwanted things (email downloads, caches, etc...

yeah Adium rocks. I only use iChat if I'm going to video chat on my macbook pro, otherwise I use adium and I'm signed in on 6 different service accounts simultaneously. http://www.adiumx.com

Though Adium IS great and I do recommend it... you might look into downloading the 10.5.3 COMBO updater. Sometimes quirky things caused by updates can be resolved by installing the combo updaters.

I personally always wait a bit on new updates (I like to see if people have issues first). If I am to update though, I primarily wait for the combo updates to be released and install them.

How funny I just found this thread saying about the same thing I just did.

I actually did the combo upgrader.

Delete the installation receipt and reinstall the combo update.

The receipt is in /Library/Receipts/bom it should be called something like com.apple.pkg.update.os10.5.3.bom
