Hey everyone! Here's another video that I hope will be helpful to someone out there!

cool!!!!! I want one!!
Nathan Holritz
The cool thing is these scanners aren't that expensive, especially considering what you get for them! Definitely grab one, and then use it for everything!

We haven't created a client folder (with paper contracts, etc) in 18 months or more! Everything is scanned and on the computer!

Amazing little scanner and amazing how much better and faster and smaller they've become in recent years!

See that you got some new pics in the gallery room. Looks like wraps? I haven't seen them yet!

a.) That is awesome, and I'm gonna foward this to Phil RIGHT NOW.
2.) You are so edible! How does Amber even stand it?! wink.gif

I'm scanning all of my invoices and receipts to PDF using a flatbed right now, but this is something I've always wondered to electronic or scanned documents:

Are they as good as the original in say an IRS audit or court?

Check with your attorney for confirmation, but we have attorney clients that did verify PDF contracts were just as good. They said make sure that you have your clients signing in blue ink to show that you have an original.smile.gif

In my ("it pays the mortgage and health insurance") day jay-oh-bee...the company I work for scans all incoming invoices (and resumes, too) -- around 1,000,000 pages a month. The scanned documents are retreivable online from anywhere in the company, anywhere in the world, for anyone who has proper network access.

If fortune 500s can go paperless...you can too. Just make sure you back-up your files esp. if you destroy the originals after scanning.

Wow, I need one of these!

I'm so amazed that more companies don't do this! It's only logical; we're living in 2008!!!

Backing up is huge! The cool thing is that most documents that a photographer is going to scan are not going to be very large, so it's easy to back them up in a number of ways. Aside from onsite and offsite backups on hard drives, I have a weekly scheduled backup set up using .Mac's Backup application that sends my important receipts and contracts to Apple's server!

Neat Receipts is really powerful little scanner/software combination. The Windows version will even export information from receipts into Quickbooks or Quicken (the Mac version of the software is a good bit behind the Windows version). Neat Receipts comes with software that will help you catalog your receipts and other documents.

The flip side, though, is that it won't scan double sided documents, and it's slower in its processing. After dealing with a slow, one sided scanner for all that time, I need speed and the ability to scan two sides at once (particularly for contracts).

Thanks for the tip Nathan - I have a huge backlog of stuff that needs to be scanned and my CanoScan is so slow!

I just ordered the big brother from NewEgg - $370 after rebate. I'm thinking it'll be money well spent smile.gif

I think that version actually comes packaged with Acrobat Pro which makes it a really great value! Coo stuff!

This stuff i sright up my alley.
In my dayjob, I work for Kofax Image Products (www.kofax.com)
We design/support scanner software that takes the scanned image, performs image cleanup and saves-out to most 3rd party scanning applications.
The main product I work with is VRS (Virtual ReScan) that cleans up the image for easier charactor recognition for applications that use OCR, and also produces images with smaller files sizes than a simple TWAIN or ISIS only application does...Boring stuff to describe, but the software does what yours does & more.
The scanners need to be grayscale capable, and scanner with Auto Document Feeders work better for this.
If any of you have specific questions about document scanning, PM me.

That's such a helpful recommendation. We have a big clunky and slow scanner at our place. Aside from not having the room for it, I hadn't even thought about how awesome it would be to go paperless. I'll be applying this to our contracts and receipts and I can't wait to free up an entire bookshelf when that stuff is gone smile.gif
FYI, I'm not in the photog business (yet--maybe ever) but I'm a hobbyist and reading all this is very helpful---even for a non-pro. Thanks!
