I am about to purchase a Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G. B&H has it for $1,199.95. I know B&H has a great reputation. I was just wondering if anyone knew of somewhere I might be able to get a little better deal on it? I am just starting out and could use all of the help I could get. Thanks in advance!!!!!

make sure you're not planning to upgrade ever to a D3... it won't work with that lens in full frame mode.
You might want to look into a 17-35 2.8.

I don't even see that 17-35 lens (on B&H website anyway). Why will the other lens not work on D3? I thought that most Nikon lens worked on all Nikon cameras? Like I said, I am new to all of this and I have a lot to learn! I just bought a D300 about 4 months ago, so I will not be upgrading anytime soon.

The 17-55 will "work" on the D3, but since it is a DX lens for smaller sensors it won't cover the whole full-frame sensor on the D3 and the camera will downsize everything to around 5-6 Megapixels. So, if you want to future-proof your lenses in case you move up to a full-frame D3 one day it is best to get a lens for full-frame sensors.
Full-frame lenses will work on the D300 with no problem, however.
Oh... an one more thing. You will have a very difficult time finding a price lower than B&H, unless you don't mind buying from sketchy dealers. B&H is generally as low as they come. Occasionally someone will drop their price $20 or so on something, but that's about it.

I have to agree with Matt. B & H may not be the absolute cheapest out there...but they are usually damn close and their service/reputation is tops.
Others I have had positive experiences/pricing with include Adorama, Roberts, Buydig, Berger Bros and Cameta.

Do unto others what you would want them to do to you.
Do you want clients to do "look for a better deal" somewhere else?
Suck it up and do it.
It feel good.

Good points! I feel real comfortable with B&H. I just didn't want to order it this week and find a better deal next week. I have done that a couple of times. I need to just bite the bullet and order it. I am very excited to get my new lens. I have just never spent that much on a lens before. Thank you for all of your help.

You can also try the used market on Nikonians and Fred Miranda.
I got a great 17-55 for $850.

I use the 17-55 on m D300 and my S5. I rarely use flash during weddings until the reception, and even then I can go natural with it a lot of times. How much did I pay for it? I have no idea since whatever it was was worth every penny. I only feel like I got the raw end of the deal whn the product isn't worth whatever the price was. Now if they can only make the S5 as fast as the D300...

Keh has it in EX+ for 1079. That's $120 less. They are good people.
