Full Version: Color Consistency - HELP!

I'm a self taught Photoshop user, so chances are good that I missed a step somewhere in my color management education, but for some reason I've recently started to have problems with my color consistency. For my last two shoots I've seen a big difference in color quality from when I edit my photos in PS and when I post them on my blog or website. At first I thought that it was just a PS issue, but even when I flatten the images into a JPG and view them in Windows explorer they look nice and bright. As soon as I post them on my blog or website however, they look significantly duller and the skin tones look gray, versus the bright/warm images I'm seeing in PS and windows explorer.

Two things have changed in my post processing since I've started to see this issue:
1) I shot all the images in RAW, as opposed to previous shoots when I was using primarily JPG.
2) I borrowed a monitor calibration kit from a friend and calibrated my monitor. Since then I have reset all the changes the calibration kit had made to try to fix the issue I’m describing.

Still seeing a big difference - can anyone help me? It's making it really hard to know if I'm OVER doing my editing or not doing enough.

Are you coverting to sRGB before "saving for web?" in Photoshop? If not, try that!

A couple of things are probably happening here...

Internet Explorer and the old Firefox don't support color spaces, so looking at your images in an internet browser will render them in-accurately. Make sure you've updated to the latest version of Firefox (currently in beta) to see more accurately rendered images.

In the process of posting your images to your blog, depending on how you go about the process, they may also get compressed, resulting in desaturation.

YUP I would agree with Katie..... resave your images in sRGB.

this is easily done if you have CS2 or CS3

simply go to adobe bridge
goto your drop down menus - to "Tool"
goto photoshop
goto image processor

and a pop up window will appear.

find your images you want to convert,

select your file type, and clik the "sRGB" box and hit enter and "wholla".... it will do it all for you and save the new set in a separate folder all in sRGB.

Hope it helps.

Thanks to all of you for furthering my color education! Converting to sRGB did the trick :-) I appreciate the help!
