hi friends...i have an xti (400d) and I'd like to get a remote shutter release, but have no idea where to go, how much they cost, or which one to buy!

also, is that all I purchase? just a remote release? does it need an adapter? so many questions....

I'd appreciate your input!

I have this and it works great with the digital rebels

It's cheap and wireless.

Here is the wired version

Read the features of both. The main difference is the wired version fully replaces the normal shutter, so you get half press functionality. You can't do a half press with the wireless version, but there is an option for a 2 second delay on the wireless.

I shoot in full manual and use back button focusing, so the wireless version is a perfect fit for me. Just make sure you pick up an extra set of batteries. The controller takes 2 of these.

Maruf,

thanks for that....I appreciate the help.

so basically, you set up your focus points before you release the shutter with the wireless option?

aha...okay, that makes sense. smile.gif

Yes, you'll get the most constant results if everything is set prior to tripping the shutter. Exposure and focus.

Exposure is easy, just use manual.

For focus, you can either set the focus on the lens to manual focus once you get it set. One way to do this is to use autofocus to get it where you want it, then flip the AF/MF switch on the lens.

The second way is to use the "*" button to focus...this will only enable auto focus if you have the * button pressed. It's enabled by custom function #4, option 1 I believe. Doing this, you would hit the * button to focus, then when you release the shutter, no auto focus will happen.

There are many threads discussing back button focusing...Here is one
