So, I have been looking everywhere for insurance in Florida. I did get a quote from Hill & Usher for equipment, but it was a lot more than I was hoping to pay for insurance on equipment. All the local agents won't even cover my gear (or basically anything in Florida near water, which I live miles from and am not in a flood zone btw) and everyone I have asked is using PPA. Anyone know who else has equipment coverage in Florida for a reasonable price? I am not opposed to using PPA, but just wondering if there is somewhere in state that would work.

Also, PPA has "malpractice" coverage, but I didn't see what that includes exactly. The Hill and Usher quote at least was quite clear on this front. Anyone know?

My understanding was that the "malpractice" covered if *you* mess up rather than equipment failures and broken legs like the liability. But I could be wrong.

I used PPA's for equipment insurance as well. smile.gif It's nice being able to calculate how much it will be at a flat rate upfront and not having all those variables (living near water?!). Speaking of, I need to call them to add something on smile.gif

Lindsey,

I understand the concept, but I just wonder what is the limit. For instance, 35k of malpractice? 50k? How much will the PPA cover me in a lawsuit? Do you know that amount? I am trying to compare it to my Hill & Usher quote. Thanks.

Here's what the website says in the member section:

QUOTE
Malpractice Protection (Indemnification Trust)
It will probably happen to you. At some point, Murphy’s Law—everything that can go wrong, will go wrong— will catch up to you. But as a PPA member, you can get a unique malpractice coverage (the Indemnification Trust) in case something goes wrong during a shoot (equipment malfunction, an error, or unsatisfied clients).

With the Indemnification Trust you:

Call PPA’s customer service center (800-786-6277) and report a claim.
Set up the claim with the agent.
Let the agent contact the law firm of Howe & Hutton, the most experienced attorneys in the world at defending professional photographers.
Wait for a phone call from the attorneys (usually received within 24 hours).
Never get raised rates or dropped coverage because you made a claim.
If your problem cannot be resolved without litigation:

The Trust will appoint and pay for attorneys to defend you
The Trust will pay any damages awarded to your client.
You only pay a $200 deductible.
You will never pay an attorney’s bill.
Use this benefit (only $50/year) and save your reputation, business, and money if something goes wrong. Call us at 800-786-6277.

Doesn't appear to be a set limit.
