I just finished up my weekend workshop yesterday, and I'm trying to catch up, but I've had these boxes sitting in my living room now for DAYS, UNOPENED, and I just had to crack the seal!!!
My Alien Bees arrived last week, and I've been wanting to open them up every day since then!
Today I finally did (even though I probably should work on email a bit more... that can wait!!!)

I went out to the trampoline where all the kids were playing.
I ran one 1600 light off an extension cord from the house,
used the sync cable that came with the light,
set my ISO to 100,
manual mode, ss: 1/250th, and I varied the aperture and the light's power till I was happy with the sky & the skin tones (yes, chimping galore)

These are screenshots straight out of Bridge:

The kids took turns holding the light & pointing it at the jumper. I was outside the net, holding my camera (5D w/24-70) inside the net, pointing it at the jumper blind & just shooting away.

Here's a shot I did w/o the light, just to see what it looked like without:

This stuff is fun!!!
I don't want to lug all this stuff to the beach, but I will be playing more with this & soccer & action stuff! And some cool portraits, too!

I LOOOOOOOOVE how ghetto you are! It makes me giddy! That sounds exactly like the sort of thing that I do to my poor ABs!!

cool!
I'm so new to ABs, I didn't even know that was ghetto, but I'll take it!
I got their new VagabondII power supply battery thing, but it's not charged yet, and honestly, the extention cord was easier for this.
It was me, one light, the camera, a BUNCH of cords, and a BUNCH of kids,
so that was about all I could handle.
Now I can see how the tweaking can be endless... get a little fill here on the other side with another light... get a hair light in the back for some rim light.... just playing with ONE this way was a fun way to start!
