My Pocket Wizard Plus transmitter appears to have died. When I push the test button I don’t get the red status light to go on and of course it doesn't appear to be signaling.

I’ve changed batteries. I always removed them between shoots. Never dropped the units. Anyone else had one of these devices just stop functioning? Has any one sent these back for repair? Ideas on cost?

Thank you for any input.

They've got a three or five year warranty. I sent one back that was damaged by a leaky battery. Wasn't covered under the warranty, but they let me buy another one for $80 or so. The one I sent in was a receiver. The one I got back was a Transceiver.

They stand behind their product very much.

make sure the TX and RX are on the same channel.............. and make sure there are fresh batteries in each.

Aside from the problem you have recently experienced with your PW, how has your overall experience with the PW been? Are you a satisfied owner/user of the PW?

The PW are on my list of items to get next, and I am just trying to get a better idea of the product because on a majority I hear they are an excellent tool to have . Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

iT's a must have tool. I love mine, and can't live without them. It will add another creaive tool to your photography. Check my last blog post with the tree and the sunset. That would not of been possible with on camera flash. Save your money and buy them

Thank you Ross, the PW are definitely near the top of my list!! In regards to the 2 shots on your blog (tree and sunset at the lake)... I am assuming you were using multiple lights with your PW....may I ask how your setup was for those shots?

Thanks again.

PW are the tool to get. Yes they might be a tad more expensive, but they do last. I am not sure what happened to mine though. I just got off the phone with MAC and they asked if I left it on "too" long. They say that if the battery runs out while the PW is on, it could burn out the board. They said it doesn't happen on all of the units, just some. Apparently this is an issues with PW PLUS and PLUS II. Not the MAX units. To clarify, I asked them if I use the units a lot and the batteries run out during a shoot, if this could damage the units. The short answer was yes. I then asked, if it only happens on some units, isn't this a design flaw. Short answer yes. Do you charge for repairs for that sort of design flaw error. Short answer yes.

Now the problem I have is, I take the batteries out of the units when not in use. The batteries I pulled last from the units had good life left. They can't explain that, but suggested I send the unit in for them to explore.

BTW - Meeks - the problem was communication between 2 units. Just the failure of the single unit.
