Full Version: Shooting a wedding in a pencil skirt.

At least I made it all the way to the reception...

My new (worn for the first time yesterday) soo cute, black pencil skirt didn't make it through yesterday's wedding. There is a short slit up the back, not revealing or anything, just enough so I can move, hah. While we were getting gear out of our car to take into the reception hall, I (still don't know why) squatted to put down a heavy bag.

Then I heard it.

"rrrriiiiiiipppp"

All I could do was look up at my husband and say, "Ohh no."

It was bad; basically I walked with my back to the wall for the rest of the night. Or I would strategically stand in front of a chair or something, hahah. If it had torn one more inch, I would have had to bust out the gaffers tape.

Lesson learned I suppose. biggrin.gif

Aiiiiiiieeeeeee....know that feeling! Lots of us carry Backup Pants, for that exact reason laughing.gif

Girl... as unpretty as it can sound, KNIT is your friend at a wedding!
Every time I find a nice looking knit skirt, I buy it.
At every wedding, I:
-Lay on the ground
-Squat down low
-Crawl on the floor
-FALL
-Climb up on (something)

Glamorous?! Oh yes.

But my knit clothes move with me!

I don't think I could ever shoot a wedding in a skirt, much less a pencil skirt!

You are a braver woman than I!

+1 alyssa!

I have a hard enough time with PANTS! Carrie, I will have to try the knit thing.

Ohhhh...you poor thing!!! That must have been VERY frustrating. I own about a gazillion pair of black slacks and I keep one pair in the trunk just in case I have that problem... or any other problems unsure.gif heehee... but I'm OLD! I would have been so embarassed! Sounds like you handled it like a trooper! Good for you!

Once again dude, YOU have split my sides!

I'm pretty sure I brought back up shoes and pants at the first wedding I shot. I'm paranoid like that! That pants-ripping thread almost made me spit coffee on my keyboard. laughing.gif

I wore a pencil skirt at my wedding last week and didn't have a problem. It was comfortable! I think skirts are more flattering on me than pants, so skirts it is. smile.gif

Yes, BACK-UP PANTS people. A must have for every wedding. Ok, I only recently started doing this, and I haven't had to use them yet, but in the event I do... they are there and I even make sure to point them out to my seconds, "see these here, these are my pee-pee pants, you may have to come get them!" (See, I'm 7 months pregnant and peeing my pants while on the job is an ACTUAL concern!) The joys of being a photographer and new mom. Always be prepared!

New keyboards cost money you know!

Interesting... I only ever wear skirts to shoot. Actually I don't even own a pair of pants. It's not hard to do at all. I've never had one rip while shooting nor have a I flashed anyone.

+1 Things like that seem to happen to me.

hah I kind of forgot I posted this.. it's funny to hear other's experiences smile.gif

I really don't have problems in skirts and dresses (normally). I have more skirts/dresses I wear to weddings than pairs of black dress pants.

(Side note- I always bring comfy clothes to change into for the ride home, even when it's like 20 minutes away, hahah)
