Awesome ... my wife Melissa has a whole bunch of squirrels in the back yard (along with other critters) that she feeds. One of the squirrels in particular is extremely friendly towards her and comes running when she is out loading the feeders.

Awesome photo!

I know it's stupid, but I have actually handfed a few squirrels. I'm a sucker when it comes to animals. So far no rabies, so it's all good. smile.gif

We have a squirrel that likes to chill out on the second floor windowsill in our bedroom. Nothing like waking up, pulling back the curtain, and being eye to eye. smile.gif

Lots of falcons in our area. Squirrels are still around, but they're not as brazen as they used to be.

It's the turkey vultures you have to watch out for. Don't ever try hand-feeding one of those -- or you might literally "hand-feed" them.

squirrel. A cuter breed of rat. but tasty!

Thanks, everyone. Mark, you haven't, have you?

Jim and Tami, I must say you both look a lot like Meg...

When I used to work at a summer camp, we had to trap the squirrels when they would get in the kitchen and release them away from the area. The boys were not quite as kind to the chipmunks and the animal lover in me still twinges, can anyone say, "chippy hockey"?

Haven't what? Eaten squirrel? Oh yeah. Takes 6-8 to make a meal for 4, but they're easy to clean, and are really good wrapped in bacon on a grill. Used to go squirrel & rabbit hunting with my granddaddy. He believed it, and it was true "Take your boy hunting and you'll not have to hunt for your boy".

And no, they don't "taste like chicken". I've never understood that. I hear all the time "Try it! It tastes just like chicken!" Well then, why don't we just have chicken?

Heh heh. The closest I've had is field mice. At least that's what I was told, but really too young to remember. Did not taste like chicken at all.

Around these here parts the squirrels' natural predators turn out to be automobiles... still mysterious to me that they would run almost all the way across the street, but at the last minute decide to turn 180, back into the path of the oncoming vehicle...
