Hey everyone,
The OneLight DVD trailer just got uploaded to YouTube!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=jm1puuyojiE

The topics covered in the DVD...

1) Exposure Variables (Aperture, Shutter Speed, Flash Power, Flash to Subject Distance, and ISO)

2) Gear - Flashes (Hotshoe and Alien Bee), stands, triggers, modifiers, etc. How they all work together.

3) Shooting - Follow along with 4 individual shoots indoors and on location as well as shooting a 4 piece band. The band was added specifically by request of folks on the OneLight forum who wanted to see shooting more than one person with one light.

4) Workflow - Working the images in Lightroom.

5) An "interview" with me. This will be an Easter egg. You'll have to find it rather than "sit through it".

It is going to be a 2 disc DVD set that will NOT be broken up for individual sales. The whole thrust of this DVD is to bring someone up from the basics to getting started with gear to getting out and shooting. We are planning a secondary DVD for later in the year that will emphasize more complex shooting scenarios with even more modifiers, rigs, and multiple lights.

Street price is going to start somewhere around $250 as an introductory price for the first few weeks and then hit about $300. Don't quote me just yet on price. All of the production isn't wrapped just yet. This thing is like a government project. Taking a little longer than I want and costing more than I thought!

You'll be getting the 2 discs (3 to 4 hours run time), a 16 to 20 page book with more info about the images shot for the DVD and other images with lighting diagrams. This will be a useful "pocket guide" to keep in your bag while shooting. There are also a number of things that are going to be packaged up with the DVD. It isn't just going to be 2 DVDs in a case! It will be a packed full mailer that arrives at your house!

Projected release date will be July 1st.

The shooting is finished. It is now in the final stages of editing. We have to add the graphics in and finalize the soundtrack. I'm working on all of the artwork for the packaging and book as well as the added bonus stuff. Getting the e-commerce and fulfillment work done as well right now. Once the masters are done it will be 3 weeks from that date.

It will be a replication process to make the DVD's instead of duplication. This is going to give the best quality. If this was going to be a one disc only production I would consider doing an online download but 2 discs of video is too much to do plus I can't package all the other stuff in with a download.

There most likely will not be a "pre-sale". Since I'm doing this replication instead of duplication, I'm going to have a lot of inventory due to the minimums required for replications. I don't want to pre-sale anything and then there be a glitch in the process that makes people have to wait longer. When it is done and in my hands, it will be ready for ordering.

We've been working on this since January and I'm really excited about how it is coming out. We'll have more trailers and clips as we get closer to launching it in July.

Let me know what you think of the trailer!

Cheers,
Zack

PS - In the trailer - notice where we get kicked out of! Not the first time I've been kicked out of art school! smile.gif

great trailer man, you rock as usual.

Love the trailer. Any discounts for former one-light students that need a refresher?

Zack...you are my lighting hero. Can't wait for the DVD...I'll buy one of the first copies.

(BTW..."the next level" is so freakin' cliche these days... totally doesn't seem like you so I'm just gonna assume that was a production assistant's decision to use in the trailer, not yours. wink.gif )
Sticky
Man that trailer is quite sick!!! Congratulations, man!

who did it, BTW?

Too bad you didn't have your workshop students on the roof. Then you could have told the security guard that they were all students. But then you wouldn't have an open for your trailer. smile.gif

In the trailer you have some slop at the end of your first on-camera "... as hard as you can." Your mouth is opening for the next word. Have your editor trim it back about three frames. You should cut when your mouth closes then go to the next slate.

Also, I think you should change "go to the next level" to "see the light." smile.gif

Yeah, that was an edit decision by the editor. It won't be there forever!

Hey Adam,
It is a jib shot! The video crew has a 14' crane that we pulled out a few times on this job. I love crane shots.

Matt - Email sent to your info@ email addy.

I can't say enough good things about how much you share. I have been stalking your blog and Flickr stream. (and yes I sent a PM at the other place).

I'm looking forward to booking a seat at one of your workshop.

Wow, I want that DVD. I've been wanting to go to your workshop SO BADLY! Come to Florida! please??? Although I had been eyeing that workshop out in Cali with Beckstead. Can't wait to sign up for the OneLight when it gets just a *tad* closer! I'm thinking the DVD would be a good intro to the workshop. Keep up the awesome work!
Jennifer Grigg
yea! DVD! I really don't get my 32 pages of notes anymore.

Hey Zack, I like the DVD trailer... it has me re-interested in your workshop.

As far as I know I was on the Seattle waiting list but I'm still unsure if the Aug 11th workshop is full/not full/not accepting payment/accepting payment you get the idea :-)

Sorry to bother you with this here, I tried contacting Meghan first (register@onelightworkshop.com), tried a PM (your box is full)... but I haven't heard back.

Thanks mcuh

I had the honor to watch the DVD last night at Zack's and let me just say, it's awesome! If only it had been done a couple years ago, it would have saved me so much stress and fumbling. But seriously, you are going to love it. Really informative, fun and the music is great. Definitely kept me engaged through the whole 2 HOURS! I think my favorite parts are the live shoots. To actually see lighting in action and hear Zack's thought process was really helpful.

Between Zack's new DVD and Matt Adcock's honest and down-to-earth presentation at PUG Atlanta's last meeting, I am so inspired to try things out and see what works. My fear will no longer get the best of me!
Zack Arias
Thanks for being part of it Sara! Now to get disc 2 wrapped up!

Cheers,
Zack

The trailer looks really awesome! I am really, really impressed. This DVD set will be worth way more than the asking price!
