I saw that one the [b]school, and to be honest i was worried about all my weddings ending up looking the same, not only the same as all the weddings i take, but the same as everyone elses.... continuity is one thing, but cardboard cutout weddings is another.
I guess if we could see what the actualy pages of it looks like i might think diferently, but it doesnt show you much on the website.

I saw it, and I think with 200 different poses or ideas, its gonna be hard to put them all in one wedding, and easy enough to rotate them...
Ive got fave 'poses' or situations at the moment, and some which I fall back on when I get stuck, so having something on hand to flip through for inspiration (when away from my stalked blogs of course) could prove handy.
Clare, if I buy one, youre not allowed to!

I suppose its ok, youre mostly south now

OR I can have the first half, you the 2nd

I just bought one a few weeks ago. I haven't yet been able to put it into practice, but it has a lot of helpful poses if you are new to photography. Heck, it's probably helpful even if you aren't new. I'm going through and marking the ones that I like. I'll try to incorporate them into my engagement sessions first. It's definitely worth the price if you need any help posing. Of course, downloading inspirational pictures you like and printing them out at the small size may be just as helpful. But the book is a great shape and size for convenience.

I bought the look book and I love it. I have used it on 2 shoots so far and it really helped to show each couple the pose or look that I had in mind. Much easier to show them than try to explain it.

Hey Dawn!
I bought the book about a month ago and really like it. I'm just getting started so this is a great book for me esp. if you need to show them the pose(s) while you explain and I also plan on allowing couples to flip through it too.
While I continue to find daily/weekly inspiration from other sources (like tons of fashion mags) this is going to be great to take on shoots (esp. engagement) since it's so compact and drops into my Shootsac nicely too.

I SO love it.

Does it basically just show a photo and that's it or does it give detailed instructions like "put most of your weight on this leg, make sure you do this, blah blah blah?"
I really like the idea of this thing, because frankly up until this year most of my photography has not been people-related. But I wonder if it looks really cheesy when you whip it out at a session. Do clients think it's cool or kind of hokey?

I've wondered about this thing too. I kind of feel like if I were to whip out a book (that is clearly not something I made, but rather something I bought) and ask my clients to assume a position out of this book, that they would seriously think of me as not a very creative person. If somebody did that to me, as a client, it would give me the impression of a large corporate studio that wants everything to be the same with no creativity. Doncha think??
I guess the reason I feel that way is because I worked at Sears Portrait Studio once (only for a couple months) and they handed me a book very similar to this lookbook and told me to pose people according to this book. I felt really restricted. Of course, by getting a lookbook, you're not bound to it but it just reminds me of this, so I'm unsure if I would get it.
For me, it would be good to look through before a wedding for ideas, but I don't think I'd take it along with me.

3-4 images per page, and occasional blurbs (like the one they show on the website, second detail photo down on the product page), but offhand I'd say there's, what, maybe 10-15 blurbs? Mostly images, which I like. I just want a suggestion to run with.
I got one at WPPI, and I haven't yet pulled it out during a shoot, but I still carry it with me each time and have little sticky note tabs on my fav poses in case I need to kickstart some ideas. I have a wedding coming up on the 12th where I may need just such inspiration as I'll be doing the poses solo. I'll definitely be thumbing through it a few times the week before.

I bought mine at WPPI. I think it's a good tool if you want something small and convenient to carry in your bag. It has small explanations next to some of the poses and lots of good examples to remind you of different angles, etc.

It has some instructions but it does not go in depth massively. However I think it is a good inspirational source for starters to give them an idea of relaxed portraits.
I bought it in case I have a severe black out with poses. Last time during the session I only had 1/2 hour given for the couples portraits and I was like uhhh my what should we do next with that pressure in my back.

Just a little update... I bought it and it has come in really handy!! I had an engagement session and sometimes with a couple that isn't as creative my mind goes a little blank so I took a minute and used the lookbook. It helped a lot!!! For those times when the sun is going down quick and you need a cute pose this helps a lot.
Sometimes when i put them in one of the lookbook poses I get a lot of my own from it. It is hard because sometimes I will do a lot of the same poses with my sessions and this helps me get my creative juices flowing again!!!
Get it!!

I borrowed Jeanette's to look through and liked it but I just don't see whipping that thing out during a shoot. Not only would it be just one more thing to carry but as some peeps have said, it might make you look like you don't know what you are doing... that may be the case w/ me but I certainly don't need to advertise it

.
I do something different... I collect poses I like from blogs and I put it on my iphone so basically I look like I'm just looking at my myriad of client messages ha! I suggested to the Lookbook peeps the idea of putting the book in electronic form that can be purchased and downloaded on the iPhone but so far they haven't gotten back to me... I would buy the book in a second if they did that.

That is a Brilliant idea!!! I look through it before the session too just for that purpose or I dont let them see me look at it. Digital lookbook would be great!

I made my own a while back. Only use it when the groom (it's usually the groom

) says, "I don't know what to do with myself...." or something the like. Anything to make him feel more at ease.
Interesting idea.
