Full Version: HELP! Unable to upload RAW images!

Hey!

I recently tried my hand at shooting RAW with my 20D for the first time. When I went to upload the pictures to my computer, the computer couldn't find the files. I have never had a problem with JPEG files, so I am sure there is something wrong that I am doing. Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to be able to upload them?

I am working with Photoshop CS2 on my PC. I am also uploading with a USB cord from the camera (so I don't have a card reader). I would appreciate any advice that anyone can give me as I am baffled as to what I need to do.

Hey girl!

I'm glad you posted here - I'm sure someone will help you out!

I think you gave me your problem when you emailed today (ha) - I'm having trouble with my raw files today too!

So frustrating! I feel like such a dunce because I have done everything I can think of. I think I got all the CS2 updates- so I don't have a clue what else to try! Hope you get yours figured out too! smile.gif

Hey Alicia! Run over to the Adobe website and download the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw and you shouldn't have any problems!

Jill, saw your other thread... Not sure there.... Hmmmm......

Okay- I did that and still nothing! How do I know if I downloaded correctly? (I got the 3.6 plug-in- do I need more?)

Hey Alicia smile.gif

I think you might need a card reader. Maybe that's the issue w/ the raw files.
I've tried copying images from the camera straight to the pc, and it takes forever. (especially RAW)
Maybe a memory card will react different.

Welcome Alicia!

Nathan and Allan both have you going in the right direction -- use a card reader to copy the files and make sure your ACR is up-to-date (though w/ a 20D, and if you're on CS2, it should be). You might also try using whatever version of DPP came with your 20D -- that should work for sure.

I love big sky country...so it's nice to see a Montanan on the forum...what part are you from? I've taken pro studies at RMSP in Missoula and I've been to Missoula and Glacier 4 times...love, love, love it up there!

*sigh* I might just have to go that route.

I wonder if there still is any way that I can do it with the USB cord directly from the camera? Has anyone had any success with it that way?

I have been using the DPP that came with my camera and I am assuming that everything is up to date- so I just have no idea why it isn't working! So crazy!!!

My husband is currently stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT. He will be leaving the military in July to join the civilian world and we are hoping to be moving to Bozeman. We also love montana- but the winters aren't our favorite. Thanks to global warming- we are experiencing 50 degree weather right now which is highly unusual for this time of the year!!!

Any suggestions on what brands that I should look into for a flash card reader?

I've used a number of different readers over the last 8 years. This one is the best I've come across.

Hmmm, I uploaded some RAW files from my camera to my PC using the USB cable and it worked fine. I used Photoshop CS2 to open the RAW files.

Try this:
Open a folder (any folder will do)
Goto Tools on top and click
Then goto Folder Options and click that
Click on the 'View' tab
Under 'Hidden files and folders', mark Show hidden files and folders
Then click Ok

I think this should help you view the files when you open up the folder with your uploaded RAW files. It'll show up but you won't be able to preview the thumbnails or the image unless you open it up in Photoshop CS2.
