Full Version: 15mm Fisheye on 1.3x?

So I have a 15mm Fisheye and I like the lens for receptions but since I am switching from a 5D to a 1D3, I am concerned that it may not be as effective as it was on my fullframe 5D.

Anyone have any sample images? I am starting to think that I should just sell it and get another prime but if it still works well as a fisheye on a 1.3x, then I will just keep it.

Thanks!

It'll still be a fisheye. The lens doesn't change depending on the camera it's on. You'll still get the curved "straight" lines toward the edge of the frame. You just won't get as wide of a view.

Here's what you can do to see what it'll look like. Take a 4x6 picture (print) you made with your 5D and the fisheye. Now, on each side, cut off about 1/2 an inch (1 cm) -- you'll end up with a 3x5. That's about what it'll look like.

Remember lenses don't ever change because you put them on a different format camera, they're just longer or shorter (relatively).

Thanks!

I thought when I put the 15mm fisheye on my 30D that is was relatively straight but I never looked at the pictures on my computer...just on the camera lcd. I don't mind it not being so wide, I actually think it was a tad too wide.

hey!! i was worried about going from my 5d to a mark 3 also... but i was actually at a wedding with DJ and i compared my fisheye on my 5d with a fisheye on his mark 3 and the images were virtually the same.

its actually kind of nice because the images with the mark 3 are a little less crazy on the outside edges. if you're looking for a super wide though w/o distortion, the 14mm is bomb.

sweet!

Thanks for the late reply! geesh! j/k!

I went ahead and sold the 15mm fisheye because I felt a more important lens to have was the 16-35...I will get another fisheye once I start making more money.
