Hopefully, I am posting this in the right place!
I may be stretching by saying this is photography related, but here goes...
So, it is warming up in Texas. The last couple shoots I did, I was melting, really dripping and wet-rat looking. So my question is to all the women who are use to the lovely heat/humidity that climates like SE Texas bring, what makeup do you use? I have been shooting a lot of teenagers lately and I want to look somewhat hip(I am really not very hip, but you can't blame me for trying) and not scary looking. After a two hour session everything has slid right off my face, and I am not wanting to raise my arms over my head for fear of offending anyone!
Also any advice on practical, comfortable, attire/shoes. I have learned already to wear shirts(and pants for that matter) that are not going to flash the poor kids whenever I am leaning down/crawling for a shot.
Also any tips on what to bring to a session, water, music, etc.. to make the heat a bit less oppressive.
So how do y'all beat the heat?
Well....you could move to Canada!

I wear bare minerals make up and love it.
As far as sweating...wear black...even though its sooo hot, you won't see any perspiration at all.

Canada? Hmmm...It would be nice to see some snow, but I think I prefer the heat!
and I have heard alot about Bare Minerals, I already have a cabinet full of makeup that doesn't stay put, maybe I will try a sample before I spend some time frolicking outside.
Thanks! Anyone else?

I use Elizabeth Arden mousse (sp?) foundation. I haven't noticed any make up sliding off my face yet

(I also wear very minimal make up - I don't know if that makes a difference) I also wear cotton or linen & cotton blended pants and short sleeved shirts. I get sweaty, but it's not so bad.

I am not a hot woman, but I know my wife loooves her Mac make-up! I would definitely concur with wearing black(due to my over-active sebaceous glands)! I most always pack a cooler for those super duper hot sticky days, as well.
best wishes

I, too, use Bare Minerals and love it! It really stands up to heat and humidity! Also, you don't have to wear a lot of it. Just a little is perfect for me!

Thanks for all the advice so far!
Isabel, cotton is pretty much what I live in through the summer, but I always figured linen was too expensive, maybe it is just the word. Linen. Doesn't that sound rich? Anyway, thanks!
Sticky, cool Avatar. Funny that people are saying to wear black, I would have thought the opposite but it makes sense...
Melanie, bare minerals sound like a possibility, I hate the feel of makeup and for me less is best. So I think I will hit up Ulta for a free makeover and then go for a long nice walk, with plenty of squats and lunges thrown in for good measure...
Y'all rock (me trying to be hip again)!

I use mineral makeup similar to Bare Minerals - it's called Youngblood - it's a little pricier than Bare Minerals but I'm always hesitant to buy something I can't try first because I have super sensitive skin and I had no idea what shade to buy and that stuff is carried locally. Love it. I either wear black or use prescription deoderant (drisol) if I want to wear something besides black) that stuff keeps you from sweating, period).
Most of the time, in the heat of summer - I don't wear foundation at all. Just eye makeup and some lips.

Melody, is Drisol for men, too? Do I have to go to the doc to get a prescription? willl others make fun of me for having prescription deodorant? I'm serious.

Sticky, that is only a deodorant, not a body gel, it's not meant to be put on all over your body. Crap, did I just make fun of you?

Yeah, you can get it, it works for men too. I don't think anyone will make fun of you for using it - it's really not deoderant actually, it's anti-persperiant. You put it on at night, before you go to sleep then get up, shower, and use your regular deoderant. It works incredibly well. You do have to get the prescription from a doctor, it's cheap though - only like $10 and one bottle lasts me several months.
Is that why they call you Sticky?

I also use bare minerals. It took me awhile to warm up to that kind of make-up, I actually put it away for months before I started using it. Now I don't want to use anything else. I was living in Florida when I started using it and it really does stand up to heat and humidity. If it stays put in Florida in August, it's gotta work anywhere!

That's also a good way to beat the crooks...as Garrett Nudd will attest...you can leave a camera on the sidewalk at 6:30 Sunday morning...work your way down the block shooting...and then come back to pick-up your forgotten camera a half hour later.

i loved using bare minerals and my skin was never healthier but.....
if you (at least with me) have any lines, the powder tended to settle and make them look a hellova lot bigger.
what about tinted moisturizer? they have some very light ones on the market now and its like wearing nothing.

Well, the Utah heat doesn't include humidity (except on the rare freakish occurance) but if you're shooting in the heat you're going to sweat and plus you have your face pressed up to the back of your camera. So, there are a few makeup items that are must wears "haves" for me. Even with a tan I'll wear foundation when I'm working - not all over unless it's a wedding.
I use :
- Maybelline Superstay Silky Foundation. It seriously stays and looks really good, plus it has spf12 sunscreen. (it is a bottle with a dual chamber that holds the colored foundation and white stuff - hahaha).
- Smashbox Cream Eyeliner in Smashing Caviar (black). They also have a new super stay eyeliner that really looks like it will stay on - I'm gonna try that soon. But, I do like eyeliner so this is a must have for me - just in the corner on the top lid.
- Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor. I LOVE this stuff and will usually get a slightly darker tint for a softened outline and then fill it in with a very light or glossy looking shade. Then I use a really cheap lipgloss (I carry it with me) to keep my lips soft

it's been my favorite for the last 5 years and I'll use it alone everyday: Bonnebell lipLITES cappuccino.
- I use a waterproof mascara (any brand but usually Maybelline and right now I'm using the Intense XXL)
The rest of the makeup I use for eyeshadow and cheek color is from Mary Kay - very good stuff and seems to really stay. I have tried a couple of the mineral makeups but haven't really liked them.

Definitely agree with the mineral makeup-Neutrogena even has some that is nice. (For the drugstore chic

)
Even in AZ, I still wear all black. I always thought it "attracted" the sun more, but once it's 120 degrees, you're going to be hot.
For shoes, try Clarks (www.clarks.com)-I swear they are the most comfortable shoes ever and they'll last you forever. Also, a lot of the styles have these new insoles that are supposed to keep your feet cool. I haven't tried the insoles yet, but my husband loves them...
I feel your pain!

JaNae, thanks for the detailed list! I really like that most of it was drugstore brands, I can afford that!

Rachael, I am going to look at the Neutrogena line, I like their skin car products. Also going to visit Clarks, thanks for the tips!

I use Sheer Cover foundation and Proactiv makeup base and that stuff stay PUT on hot days. It's really good stuff. I think a foundation primer will do wonders for you regardless of the foundation you choose.
Also as far as sweating...get the Secret prescription strength. It's a little pricey for such a small thing but WOW does it ever work great.

I LOVE my MAC makeup
I use Studio Fix, and I've been using it for years. i love it. they have like 5 different types of powders & foundations, so its easy to find something you like.
I tried bare minerals but it gave me a chemical burn on my face. I have SUPER sensitive skin. and my mom (who is 40) always complained that it made her wrinkles stand out .
but both bare minerals and mac are returnable if you don't like them!
