I know when I had a PC and I used Outlook I could sort emails into folders to keep things organized by subject, person, project, etc. I would love to keep correspondence involving each wedding into one individual folder and I can't figure out how to do it. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't know whether you can sort into folders but you can change the sorting by clicking on the relevant column header (you can set which columns you have under the view menu) . If you combined this with flagging and the search function you may have a workable system.
I hope this is of some help.

For sure you can use different folders and sub-folders to keep everything organized. Just click on the plus sign in the bottom left hand corner and add a new mailbox on your mac. If you really want to get tricky, you can set up different rules (in the preferences window) to automatically forward incoming messages to the appropriate folders. I don't do this too much, just because I am paranoid about missing something by accident (I keep all of my messages in my inbox until I have dealt with them) but it is a possibility.

i have Apple Mail set up with TONS of rules to sort into different folders... i've significantly cut the number of messages that come into my actual inbox from the 8 e-mail accounts that i've got. Works like a charm.... no one does it better or easier than apple!

Hey Trevor, maybe you can answer this. I have several e-mail accounts (six or seven) and right now they all go to the same place. They're all POP accounts. If I were to change them all to IMAP accounts, will I then have six inboxes, six sent mail folders, six junk mail folders, etc? That would be bad. I know Entourage made it easy, but the last time I tried this with Mac mail (several years ago) there were too many drop-downs.

I want to switch to IMAP so I can check and send e-mail from the Web and still have the sent messages show up in my "sent" box in Mail.

I tried this. It has me store it "On My Mac" but then I can't pull over the messages from my inbox to that folder. What am I doing wrong?

Edit** Never Mind. Got it working! Thanks!

Can you help me figure out how to do this? Do emails still show as unread even if they are moved into new folders? Thanks!

Adam, I don't know the answer to your question... the only IMAP accounts I have are my gmail account and my .mac account... the others are all POP but all of the accounts display the same and act the same, except of course the IMAP accounts function like an IMAP account and sync automatically with my iphone etc.

Krystle, I could give you some pointers, but it's really simple to set up. Once you create folders, creating rules is SO intuitive, I bet you can find a tutorial on apple's website that will go into much more detail than I can.... and yes, you can either have rules automatically move/copy messages to folders and mark them as read, or un-read. I have mine do all sorts of things like change colors, mark as read, keep in my inbox and copy to a folder, move to folders, delete automatically, all sorts of things.... and I probably don't know half the things that apple mail can do!

Here's a very simplified start on creating rules: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?pa....0/en/9909.html

if you go to http://www.apple.com/support and go to the top left side of the page, type in "mail rules" in the search box to search the support site for articles on using rules. Feel free to post if you have any questions though. I'll do my best to assist.

Sorry to threadjack, here. Do you check your IMAP accounts in Mail? If so, do you have an inbox for each one or can you have them go to a common folder (inbox)?

they all come into the inbox... everything does. but you can view each one individually.... i think that's pretty normal, is it not?

I find that Smart Folders in Mac Mail are extremel useful. They are super easy to set up and they can show you messages from any folder without actually moving the message. It basically creates pointers to the actual message in whatever folder the smart mailbox found it in, according to the criteria that you setup when you created the smart mailbox. If you want to create one, go to "Mailbox" at the top program bar, then click on "New Smart Mailbox". The drop down window that comes down will help you setup the criteria in a pretty easy to follow method.
Just remember that if you delete a message from the smart mailbox, you are actually deleting the message in the folder that it's actually in.
