I've noticed lately that whenever I am using my wide angle lenses, I lose the sharpness of my photos. It seems that anytime I am using 100mm focal length and up they are extremely sharp. Is it just me, or is it all wide angle lenses? It happens with my canon 16-35mm L series lens and my Tamron 28-75mm. Some advise would be appreciated, I love sharp pictures!
i just rented a canon 10-22 for my 40d and there is a drop off after f8. i cant speak for the 16-35 that you have presumably on a 5d, but i can say that any f-stop from the max opening to f8 would trouble me. the best that i have seen for openings from f11 to f22 is a tripod. the images still show up a tad fuzzy in the finer details, but fortunately, i dont use those settings that much to really worry.
the only other point i feel is necessary to make is that the lack of IS on the wide angle lens is a plus to me. handholding seems to be ok down to 1/25 and slower if that is the desired effect. otherwise, i have had to raise the ISO to make for pleasing photos for hand holding.
