Hey guys, so I'm shooting a wedding in Maui, Hi & an engagement session! rolleyes.gif My best friend is going on the trip with me and her BF is flying in to surprise her and propose to her! wub.gif He hired me to shoot their engagement session when we're there. This is my first time to Maui and I was curious to see if anyone kowns of any exotic, or hidden secret locations on the island for good places to photograph them at. I'm doing some research on my own too, but any ideas would be great! Thanks guys! thumbsup.gif

There used to be a beach called Secret Beach (after Wailea) but it's no longer secret! We were shown it by some local friends 10 years ago but now there's more than one wedding photographed there DAILY especially at sunset!!

If you want somewhere really off the beaten track there's a place called La Perouse where the locals surf when there's a south swell and where a lot of them go camping on the weekend. You need to drive past Wailea, past Makena Beach and you'll start noticing the scenery change and you're driving through lava rocks (not literally, it's on either side of you!!). Anyway the road stops and there's a car park. Park your car and if you're facing the beach, start walking towards your left and just keep walking till you can't walk any further! That's La Perouse. The walk is along the beach and along the way there's some lovely little nooks and crannies as well as a small blow-hole. I'd say it's about a 10 minute (very easy) walk. It's also a great spot for shooting sunsets.

There's also a waterfall just after Haiku on the North Shore which entails a walk through a bamboo forest but it's almost impossible to explain where it is but if you drive a little past Haiku (towards Hana) you normally see a ton of cars parked on the side of the road!!

The road to Hana is stunning and you'll find a bunch of places along the way to shoot at.

And book yourselves a table for a sunset dinner at Kimo's in Lahaina or if your friend wants a great place to propose tell him to go to Mama's Fish House in Paia! Both are two of the nicest places on the island to eat. And try Eskimo Candy, in Kihei, for lunch. You'll see more locals there than tourists and it's just off the main road & the food is AWESOME!

Depending on how much walking you want to, you can continue up the road past Kapalua (northwest side of the island) and there are a bunch of spots to pull over and walk down the trails towards the water...you will probably have to go through some trees and such.... just keep in mind it gets windier the farther you go up.

You could also take a trip up to Haleakala and get something "different" from the ocean and beach scenes because you will be at the volcano instead...(red dirt, clay)

The sunrise at Haleakala is breathtaking...in more ways than one. (It is actually freezing up there, so bring lots of extra clothes)
I think you will have a hard time not finding all kinds of awesome locations. The seven pools on the way to Hana is pretty cool as well.
Make sure to share when you get back!

So I've been SUPER busy since my trip to Maui! The wedding went great, I enjoyed watching a luau and the surprise engagement was awesome and I love the image from the engagement session, my friends and had a blast! Oh and recently they surprised me with their wedding location and date (they of course hired me to photograph it) so they are going BACK to HAWAII, but this time Kauhi, the garden island and it'll be this November! YEA! So excited! Here are some of my fav picks from both the wedding and the engagement session of my friends. Enjoy!
